    THE SEACOAST

    The Seacoast is a region of New Hampshire located near the state’s 18 miles of coastline. Although not officially bordered, any town within 30 miles of the coast could easily consider itself part of this region, including parts of Maine and Massachusetts. For example, Epping- 20 miles west of the coast and Rochester- 20 miles to the north would both be considered Seacoast towns. The Seacoast doesn’t have an official capital, but I’d assume most locals would consider Portsmouth the natural hub for the region with a working port, thriving downtown, and easy highway access to cities in all directions. These are the native lands of the Abenaki people. 

    Another notable feature of the Seacoast is Great Bay. This 6,000 acre tidal estuary and its many tidal rivers and streams provide distinct boundaries between Seacoast towns. The impressive body of water rewards hikers with many trails with water views. This, combined with the ocean shoreline and many ponds and lakes, makes the Seacoast a picturesque and peaceful place to hike. It’s common
