Chapter 1 - The Flaws of Modern Dating Culture
The divorce rate in the United States, today, is close to fifty percent. Throughout our culture, we see the sexualization of men’s and women’s bodies through advertising, reality television shows, and pornography. These are truths in the modern dating culture today.
I have worked with hundreds of youths throughout middle schools and high schools. The biggest topic on their mind is relationships. I have seen so many boys and girls cry because their ex decided to move on to someone they valued more. It is heart-breaking.
Modern dating starts off with looks and attraction. Men analyze a woman’s looks, appearance, and symmetry in order to determine who they would like to pursue. Women tend to look for status and security. However, they also look at a man’s looks and body.
Why does this matter? Looks are not forever. Inside of a modern dating culture, we date who we think we can get. If a man finds a girl who is hotter, then he can easily move onto the next relationship. Women can do the same thing.
We have grown up in a society where casually dating has become the norm.
