    Introduction

    If you stood in front of my bookcase, you would see a great collection of books across many genres. You would then stumble on the little self-help section and worry about my sanity for a moment or two, I suppose. Finally, you would find the diet book graveyard where good intentions go to die. Like the extra ten or twenty pounds I find it so hard to shake off I cannot seem to let go of those books for some reason as if I will pick them up a month or two down the road and be struck with the realization that I had done that one little thing wrong, and now it all made perfect sense. Um, sorry but no. That is not how any of this works. Fad diets, no matter how nicely they are packaged and no matter which celebrity, pseudo-celebrity or TV quackster they have to endorse it, do not work. They may help you lose a few pounds in the beginning when you are still in the excited, my goodness, this could work phase but then you pass through to reality, and you fail or rather, the diet fails you. It’s not your fault.

    You see, the human body is complex, far more complex than what it is given credit for. We call it our machine and while on some level we fuel it and it goes like a machine there are other considerations that have to be kept in mind as well. That is the problem with all of these quirky little fad diets. They take one major thing and focus on it and forget about the hundreds of little things that are every bit as important.

    I will admit it. From the title of this particular book you are about to read you would think that it is just like all of the rest, preying on your fears and weaknesses, telling you little bits of sciency-sounding stuff and then trotting out weird rules that no one could ever hope to follow in the real world. Sorry to disappoint you but this is not going to be the case at all! In fact, let’s dispense with the formalities right here and now:

    This is not a diet book per se however once you start incorporating more and more of these recipes in your regular day to day eating you might find that you feel better, and maybe that helps you make some other changes.

    This is not so much a book about the actual alkaline diet. You can find a ton of information about the actual acid/alkaline diet online, and it is interesting, but this is just going to hit the main points and then move on.

    This book is not about getting the absolute strictest level of perfection going on here. The Alkaline diet has something like 10 levels with 10 being the top tier, the so-called perfect level which I would imagine is for elite athletes and supermodels who depend on being flawless for their livelihood. That level is pretty much vegan, all raw foods all of the time and sounds like one of the rings of hell to me. Let’s you and I stick to one of the lower levels, shall we?

    I am only going to briefly cover the concept of food combining with you and then I will probably break some of the rules with the recipes I give you. I am saucy like that.
