About this ebook

“Astrology: For Those Who Won’t Admit They’re Interested” presents astrology in a fresh and unorthodox light. It is written with the intention of offering both sceptics and lovers of astrology a deeper appreciation of the stars.

It begins by introducing and articulating the idea that astrology can be a tool for personal transformation, ultimately leading to liberation from all that is predictable.

It then goes through the essential meanings of each of the star signs, from Aries to Pisces. These entertaining interpretations are enriched by mythology, folk tales and teaching stories gleaned from western psychology, eastern mystic traditions and from Sudhir’s years of experience as an astrologer.

The book ends with an interview that further illuminates the ideas Sudhir presents in the introduction. This interview provides answers to the questions that a fresh approach to astrology should naturally invite.

This book is lavishly and humorously illustrated by the brilliantly wry Australian artist, Jinesh Wilmot. Upasana Papadopoulos is the editor. She also conducted the interview with Sudhir that is included.

    INTRODUCTION

Astrology is a way of asking the question ‘Who am I?’

The theory goes that at the moment we are born, we are something like a clean photo-plate. As we pop out of the comfort and safety of our mother’s womb, we are imprinted by the state of the universe at that moment. This imprint supposedly travels with us as a blueprint, until we die.

It may be that we are influenced in such way. Whether Astrology in it’s present form describes that influence accurately, is a matter of conjecture and controversy.

No matter how much frothing and fuming there is from either side of the argument, there appears to be no scientific basis to astrology in it’s present form. Indeed there are so many inconsistencies to the argument that Astrology is a science that at the best it could get over the line as a ‘Quasi-Science’. And a Quasi-Science is pretty much a superstition.

Strangely however, this doesn’t really seem to matter – Astrology survives and thrives anyway. The history of Astrology is littered with tales of people, often scientists, who in doing their level best to dispute and disarm Astrology, have ended up impressed.

Astrology is more about psychology than science. It is a strong collection of symbols and associated tales that has survived since antiquity. The myths and legends from various cultures that are associated with the stars and the planets, have been meticulously accumulated, polished and kept alive throughout history – no matter what arguments have been thrown at them.

These symbols and their associated story-lines admirably and accurately describe a broad sweep of human behavior. They form a rich tapestry that can be woven together in infinite ways. Constantly re-invented, they don’t ever seem to lose their capacity to enchant, confront and charm. They hint at our strengths, our foibles and our longings. They are a description of the various adventures, downfalls and learnings that we all go through in our lives in one way or another.
