"God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and of sound mind"

Dedicated to my Dad John E. Field whom I love and who passed from this Earth when I was eleven, and especially to my son Martin D Field who also recently passed, and whom I love as only a close kindred spirit can love another. He is a part of my books and other projects on our website, and helped with the cover design. Thank God for the time I had to pass on to him what Grace and Truth that I had received.

    About this book

In some ways, it was not a bad thing that I wrote this book over a period of three to four years. The advantage of doing it this way is that I was able to use examples of events as they came along, and so all the facts were fresh in my mind as I wrote them. It is also good because time can be the real test of what is written. This 2nd edition includes some of the left out original manuscript, and additional information.

    About the Cover Design

Part of my untraditional approach to tennis was to strap my rackets on my back when riding my motor bikes to practice or tournament. Even though I was never an airborne stunt rider as illustrated, I did have tennis and riding encounters that required courage to overcome.

    Foreword

Although the subject of emotion is enormous and outside the limits of my full understanding, most of what happens when fear and anger falls upon us, is a universal and common experience. The main difference is the intensity and the degree to which it affects us as individuals. The cause of strong emotion is more often a mysterious and personal thing. There are however, some things that we all have in common that are very basic, yet hold the key to understanding our actions under stressful circumstances. I believe that if we have the courage to face ourselves and honestly question why we do certain things - though that's no easy task - the truth can be enormously rewarding.

It is important for me to say that I have always been a little put off by books which stretch out the essence of the contents to the limits. What can be said in ten words is said, in a hundred. Simplifying knowledge however, is easier said than done, and I have learnt this the hard way. Since most people have very little time to read, I have rewritten most of this book over and over again, until I got it shorter and hopefully clearer. I hope my efforts, which took longer than I expected, have proven fruitful, and the reader can quickly and easily grasp the concepts that I am trying to put forward.

I see no strong point in a writing hundreds of pages about this subject. Because most of us deep down already know a great deal about the results of fear. All I’m trying to achieve, is to interest the reader in reexamining something that they may think they already know. Re-examining something you believe you already know is not easy. However there are different depths to which one can know something, from the superficial to a very deep level. There's a very big difference between knowing, and acting on what we know. Most often in life, it is the simple things which are the fundamentals of life. But is it not true that we often hurry through the fundamentals? To climb a mountain is basically a very simple concept to understand, but, if that mountain is Everest, then this is certainly
