    GAUGE: 6 1/2 sts to 1 in.

    RIGHT and LEFT MITTEN: Cast on 26 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 12 rows. Work beading as follows: K 1, * Y O, K 2 tog.; repeat from * ending P 1.

    K 1, P 1, for 3 rows. K 1 row, P 1 row, increasing to 27 sts on the P row.

    Start thumb gusset as follows:

    Row 1—K 2; cross next 2 sts (K the 2nd st on left hand needle then K the first); K 3; cross next 2 sts; K 4; inc. 1 st in next st; K 4; cross next 2 sts; K 3; cross next 2 sts; K 2.

    Rows 2—4 and 6—Purl.

    Row 3—K 2; cross next 2 sts; K 3; cross next 2 sts; K 4; inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts; K 4; cross next 2 sts; K 3; cross next 2 sts; K 2.

    Row 5—K 2; cross next 2 sts; K 3; cross next 2 sts; K 4; inc. 1 st in next st; K 2; inc. 1 st in next st; K 4; cross next 2 sts; K 3; cross next 2 sts; K 2.

    Row 7—K 2; cross next 2 sts; K 3; cross next 2 sts; K 4; inc. 1 st in next st; K 4; inc. 1 st in next st; K 4; cross next 2 sts; K 3; cross next 2 sts; K 2.

    Row 8—Purl.

    Work in pattern (right side) across 13 sts; place on st-holder. K next 8 thumb sts; place remaining 13 sts on 2nd st-holder.

    THUMB: P 1 row, K 1 row, on the 8 thumb sts for 5 rows, then decrease tip of thumb as follows:

    Row 1—* K 2 tog., K 1; repeat from * ending K 2 tog.

    Row 2—P 2 tog., P 1, P 2 tog.

    Draw remaining sts tog. Fasten off. Sew thumb seam.

    Place sts from 1st st-holder to needle, join yarn; place sts from 2nd st-holder to left hand needle and work in pattern across them.

    P 1 row, then work back and forth in pattern (K 2, * cross next 2 sts, K 3; repeat from * ending K 2) on the 26 sts for 12 rows, ending with a P row.

    Decrease tip of mitten as follows:

    Row 1—K 2, * K 2 tog., K 3; repeat from * ending K 2 tog., K 2.
