What You Need:
BEEHIVE NON-SHR1NK SOCK WOOL (1 oz. skeins), or
BEEHIVE NON-SHRINK MOORLAND, 3 Ply (1 oz. skeins).
Slack-Length Socks:
SIZES 10-10 1/2 or ll-11 1/2—2 skeins.
SIZE 12-12 1/2—3 skeins.
Regulation-Length Socks:
3 skeins tor each size.
ROYAL SOCIETY PLASTIC SOCK NEEDLES No. 1.
GAUGE: 8 1/2 sts make 1 inch; 12 rnds make 1 inch. For important information on Gauge, see page 34.
Cast on very loosely

Divide sts on 3 needles, join, being careful not to twist sts, and work around tightly in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for 2 inches for Slack-Length Socks, or for 5 inches for Regulation-Length Socks. Next rnd: Knit around, decreasing evenly around to

Work in stockinette st (knit each rnd) until piece measures in all 5 1/2 inches for Slack-Length Socks, or 11 1/2 inches for Regulation-Length Socks. Drop yarn, with a different color thread for heel marker, knit onto 1st needle (later to be heel sts)

Drop marking thread. Divide the remaining sts between 2nd and 3rd needles for instep. Go back and pick up main yarn and, starting with heel needle, continue working in stockinette st as usual until piece measures from heel marker

To Shape Toe: 1st rnd: On 1st needle, k 1, slip 1 st as if to knit, k 1, pass slipped st over knit st, knit to within 3 sts from end of needle, then k 2 together, k 1. On 2nd needle, k 1, slip 1 st as if to knit, k 1, pass slipped st over knit st, knit to end of needle. On 3rd needle, knit to within 3 sts from end of needle, then k 2 together, k 1. 2nd rnd: Knit around. Repeat these 2 rnds alternately until there remain

Regulation-Length Socks:
4 skeins of main color and about 7 yards each of 2 contrasting colors (to be referred to as A and B) for each size.
ROYAL SOCIETY PLASTIC SOCK NEEDLES, 1 set each of No. 1 and No. 2.
GAUGE: 7 sts make 1 inch; 10 rnds make 1 inch. For important information on Gauge, see page 34.
With main color and No. 2 needles, cast on
