The Big Move - Dianna Jay
Chapter One
Back in California, Danielle is busy in her office when her friend Kay comes in.
Okay,
Kay says, What’s up? You’ve been moping around here the last four days. So, what’s up?
Kay Harris has been Danielle’s friend for more than twenty years and she has seen Danielle at her best and her worst. She knew something was bothering her. I’m waiting,
she said.
Danielle finally stops shuffling papers, takes a deep breath and sits down. Well... you know about my dad passing.
Yeah, we’ve been through that,
Kay is quick to answer. And?
she pauses.
There’s my mom... and the radio station... and money problem.
Again, Kay answers. We’ve been there too.
She pauses. Continue,
she says with a musical tone.
Danielle hesitates to answer and Kay lays into her.
I’ve been giving you some time and space to get your shit together; but maybe I was wrong!
Danielle listens intensely while Kay continues. Little Miss Kay moves in closer. Kay’s size has never stopped her from voicing her opinions. She’s a five-foot-four, short blond hair, blue eyed cutie and well versed in business.
There’s nothing that can be done about your dad, he’s gone and I believe to a better place; but you’re still here, and your life is in front of you.
She sits right next to Danielle and in a low voice she says. The money thing can be solved; hell, I can even give you some money!
No, no...I can never borrow money from you,
was Danielle’s response.
I did not say loan, I said give.
Kay corrected her.
I don’t think I can do that.
Let me ask you this, if I were in trouble and needed some money, what would you do?
That would be different...
Kay cuts her short. No. It is not! So it’s not about the money is it? What else is going on with you Danielle?
Silence.
Danielle lets out a sigh. I met this guy.
Ahh, there it is. You met a guy.
And in the same breath she asks. You didn’t dirty your body did you?
No, no.
Danielle replies, a smile forming on her lips as she was shaking her head. "It was nothing like that. He was a friend
