The Christmas Show
––––––––
The auditorium is slowly getting full; this is the most important recital of the year. Family and friends are gathering to watch their kids show off the routines they have been practicing for the last six months.
Behind the curtains you can hear kids rehearsing and getting ready for curtain call. Jake Dawson is standing by the door handing out programs. This is his baby; he brought together six different music schools and a couple of music stores as sponsors.
As people arrive, Jake is standing by the auditorium entrance door...
Welcome to the show.
He smiles, Thanks for coming!
After thirty minutes of the same greeting, he begins to sound like a broken record. Welcome to the show.... Thanks for coming.
Welcome to the show.... thanks for coming.
Just about that time the lights begin to dim announcing the start of the show. Danielle Kingsley comes running up to the door. As if in slow motion, Jakes’ eyes capture her image and commit it to memory... a tall, blond woman. The first thing he notices is how beautiful she is; then, her pretty white sundress, dark designer shades and toenails painted bright red. She seems as out of place as a delicate flower in the heart of Florida. He wonders what brings her to the show and is about to dismiss her when he notices how lost she looks.
Can I help you miss... are you here for the Christmas show?
Yes. I'm running a little late, my nephew is in the show and I don't want to miss it.
No. You're just in time, we're about to start.
I'm Jake Dawson; I'm directing
