    A Message from the President/CEO . . .

Greetings and welcome to another quarter of edifying and insightful study. We look forward to joining you for a series of studies in God’s powerful and transforming Word. For over 120 years, we have been motivated by the vision of our founder, Dr. R. H. Boyd, to provide you with the highest quality and most doctrinally sound literature for the African-American church. This quarter is certainly no exception.

In this quarter, we turn our attention to a variety of Scriptures that are relevant for our own day, dealing with the nature of faith and the certainty of judgment for sin and wickedness. In April, we will look at Restorative Faith. These lessons, drawn from the Gospel of Luke, look at several examples of healing in this Gospel. In these lessons, we will see how such healings are a sign of the coming of the Kingdom. We will also note His special concern for the poor and dispossessed in the world.

In May, we will look at the Fullness of Faith. These lessons, also drawn from the Gospel of Luke, call us to a faith that is growing, grateful, humble, and joyous. Luke’s Gospel is full of such practical wisdom that helps us to live out the values of the Kingdom of God in our everyday lives.

Finally, in June, we will turn to Judgment and Salvation. These lessons, drawn from the Old Testament prophet Zephaniah, examine the disobedience of God’s people and the certainty that judgment will come upon them. A final lesson, drawn from Paul’s letter to the Romans, examines God’s wrath in action in Paul’s day.

Praise and thanks be to God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—for the blessings these lessons contain. May He bless you in your studies this quarter.

    In His Service,

    Dr. T. B. Boyd III

    President/CEO

This quarter has three units that use the Gospel of Luke and the prophetic oracles of Zephaniah to consider themes of faith. Children’s units are the same for April and May, but June’s lessons are drawn from the book of Genesis.

    UNIT I — APRIL

Unit I, titled Restorative Faith, follows Easter with four sessions in Luke that look at incidents in which followers experienced healing, redemption, and restoration of their faith through inspiring actions and teachings of Jesus.

    UNIT II — MAY

Unit II, Fullness of Faith, is a five-session study, also in Luke, of numerous ways Jesus’ followers expressed their faith through gratitude, humility, childlike acceptance, and repentance.

    UNIT III — JUNE

In the four sessions of Unit III, Judgment and Salvation, the proclamations of Zephaniah are presented to emphasize God’s desire to save the people from their rebellious state, which is a rejection of creation, and bring them to obedience and salvation. A final lesson, drawn from Paul’s letter to the Romans, also emphasizes these themes.
