    TODAY’S LESSON

    Vandalism is one of the most disrespectful crimes that people can commit. It shows a total lack of honor and respect for someone’s property. People vandalize all sorts of objects and places. Have you ever heard of a church being vandalized? How did it make you feel? Were you saddened or angry to hear that a place of worship had been treated so disrespectfully? Today we will talk about how some of the Jews were disrespecting God’s house and how Jesus reacted. As Jesus reacts, He quotes Old Testament passages from the books of Isaiah and Jeremiah. We are also going to learn about how the Gospel is extended to the Gentiles.

    I. Everyone Will Be Invited to God’s House (Isaiah 56:6-7)

    Isaiah 56 is a chapter brimming with hope for the Gentiles. Remember that God’s covenant was only shared with the Jews in the Old Testament. Only the descendants of Abraham could take part in God’s blessings. But Isaiah 56 promises that a new day is coming when all people will be able to become a part of God’s family. Isaiah writes that God will bring in all the Gentiles to worship in His temple. They will be happy to worship God, and God’s forgiveness will extend to them too. God says, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples (v. 7, NRSV). One day, both Jews and Gentiles, will be able to call upon God as their
