TODAY’S LESSON
Many communities have had historical events that helped to shape the people and the community. These events changed lives, altered how people thought and felt, and paved the way for new thinking and experiences. Think about when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus or when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his I Have a Dream
speech. The people who were present during these moments were eyewitnesses to these events. The eyewitnesses were crucial to enhancing these moments for the rest of the nation by retelling what they saw or heard or did.
How many eyewitnesses do you need before you will believe a story? Jesus’ resurrection is a historical event that changed the lives of those living at the time, and it continues to change the lives of many people today and those who will come after us. After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to more than five hundred people. That’s a lot of eyewitness accounts! These eyewitnesses testified to Jesus’ victory over death and inspired others to give their lives to the true Savior.
Today’s Scripture passage comes from a letter the Apostle Paul wrote the Corinthian church. Just like today, people had all sorts of beliefs concerning the resurrection. Some thought it was a story but not the historical truth. Some believed the Disciples created the story in order to gain more followers. These doubters did not believe in the true
