    A Message from the President/CEO . . .

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,

The staff at R.H. Boyd Publishing Corporation enthusiastically welcomes you to another inspirational quarter of biblical study. For 120 years, it has been our privilege and joy to offer the highest quality of literature for the African-American home and church. We hope that the significant amount of thought, planning, and preparation that went into this material will translate into an edifying and inspiring experience for you.

Over the next three months, we will study a variety of texts from both the Old and New Testaments. The first unit explores themes of love and death through an examination of weddings and funerals in the Scriptures. The second unit maintains this focus on the importance of ritual. It looks at several festivals described in the Law and highlights their purpose in God’s redemptive work. The final unit, for the month of March, examines the Gospel of Mark and several moments when the faith of Jesus’ followers was tested. The overall lesson is the importance of faith in the midst of doubt.

We pray you will complete this quarter with a stronger understanding of Scripture and a stronger commitment to God. As we have done for the last 120 years, we pledge to continue to produce doctrinally sound resources for the body of Christ and the African-American community. We are confident this study is just one of the many ways R.H. Boyd Publishing Corporation fulfills that mission and, in a small way, helps to bring readers into a closer relationship with God.

    In His Service,

    Dr. T. B. Boyd III

    President/CEO

    QUARTERLY OVERVIEW

This quarter has three units which ultimately focus on celebrating the blessings God has given His people and encouraging believers to have faith and trust in God in all circumstances.

    Unit 1—January

    Special Times in Life

Unit 1 has five lessons which come from various scenes of celebrations and life events found in both the Old and the New Testaments. The first lesson looks at the importance of love and marriage as a unit. The second lesson emphasizes the selflessness of true love, while the third lesson shows that love requires repeated forgiveness. The fourth lesson encourages compassion and helping others in times of need. The fifth lesson turns to celebrating life in times of grieving for loved ones.

    Unit 2—February

    Special Celebrations

Unit 2 is a four-lesson study which looks at the various festivals and celebrations which God commanded the Israelites to observe. The first lesson covers the Passover. The second lesson looks at the Feast of Weeks. The third lesson discusses Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice as fulfilling the Law so that other sacrifices are no longer necessary. The fourth lesson covers the Feast of Booths, which reminds us of our heritage.

    Unit 3—March

    Finding Our Faith

Unit 3 has four lessons focusing on strengthening our faith in Jesus Christ by understanding His key teachings. The first lesson encourages us to always have faith that Jesus can do anything. The second lesson emphasizes that following Jesus requires complete surrender and sacrifice of our personal desires. The third lesson, on Palm Sunday, reminds us of our weakness in times of fear. On Easter Sunday, we celebrate the risen Lord and are reminded of our purpose to spread the Good News.
