    One Last Match

    You stupid shit.

    Eric Wilson huddled over the tiny pile of twigs and dead leaves. His hands shook so much he could hardly hold the match steady enough to strike it against the box.

    You just had to go this way, didn’t you?

    Eric got the match and the box together, but the head of the match popped right off and fell into the pile of twigs and leaves without even flaring.

    And then you fell down that cliff and lost all the supplies.

    There weren’t many matches left. Eric picked out the next one and shoved the box shut before he could spill the rest.

    And then you had to go and fall in the creek.

    Eric rested his hands on his knees, making sure the match was well away from his wet pants, and took a deep shaky breath, trying to get himself back under control.

    And now you think you’re going to light a fire. Well, good luck with that, you incompetent idiot.

    Eric took a couple more breaths, refocusing his mind on
