About this ebook

It’s only the biggest dance of the year and Charlene encounters nothing but obstacles while she tries to make herself presentable: a pimple on her forehead, no transportation, stains, wrinkles, dogs, her own family, her date, grabby dance partners, catty comments from the peanut gallery... This evening could not be going worse!

    Charlene Goes to the Dance!

I have a pimple on my forehead! Charlene Schwartz shrieked, holding her hair up so she could look more closely at the offending blemish in the mirror. And tonight is the night Billy Bob is taking me to the big dance! My life is totally over!

Still clutching her hair off her face, she spun around and started rummaging one handed through the bathroom cabinets. Maybe her older sister or brother had left some acne medicine there, or some kind of cleanser that would magically erase the red spot on her forehead. But even using two hands to search with didn’t turn up anything that would create perfect skin and save her from social disaster.

The dance was just eight hours away! There was no time to lose! She jerked her hair back into a pony tail, combed her bangs to cover her horrible disfigurement from the entire neighborhood, grabbed her purse off the dresser and ran out of the bedroom. The intersection had a Walgreen’s on the corner where two subdivisions and a shopping center met; it was a whole mile away, and no car to get her there! Even if she was old enough to drive, there weren’t any cars in the driveway, or on the street, because both parents were at work and both siblings
