About this ebook

Jackie Hunt is a black middle class college student with middle class aspirations who wants to meet a man she can love and respect. But all the men she’s been dating lately, are the ones who believe she should pay for the date, and assume they should take her to bed. But she’s not having none of that. Jackie isn’t expecting to meet a rich man. She doesn’t hold those high aspirations. Jackie doesn’t expect flowers and candy, and expensive dinners. She just wants a man who can afford to pay for a movie and popcorn. “Is that too much to ask for?” she says posing the question to her girlfriend, Emily, who sets her up on dates with a lot of losers.

John Greenleaf is a man who’s comfortable and has a great life. All he wants is to meet a woman who doesn’t check his portfolio to determine how much money he has, or what profession he’s in. “Is it too much to ask to meet women who will like me for myself?” He asks his friend, LaShawn, a jock whom he’s known since his football days when he was the golden boy quarterback in college, and LaShawn was then the aspiring freshman quarterback.
When Jackie finally meets John, will they discover that they have something in common, or will they come to the wrong conclusions about each other before they get a chance to fall in love?

Sweet Embrace #1 - Erica Storm

    Chapter 1: Jackie

I had known Emily for four years of college. She always had a level head and never suggested anything outrageous until tonight. We roomed together for three years in an apartment off campus and surprisingly liked each other’s company. It didn’t matter if she’s white and I’m black, we just found a kindred spirit in each other. It’s like that when you don’t know where you belong in the world, and then all of a sudden you find someone you can talk to and someone you can love.

Emily was someone I could talk to. I still haven’t found that someone I can love and be intimate with.

But you know when you find a friend that likes the same silly things you do. You know when you can laugh and be straight with a friend, and you like to go to the same stupid places and they like it too. You know then they are your friend.

Whenever I set Emily up with boyfriends, I always make sure they have money to take her out to the movies, or on a date to a good restaurant. She enjoys the young men I hook her up with because she likes black men, and most of my associates on campus are black men who are going to school, working, and have a decent part time job.

Me, I didn’t care if the men were black or white. Men were men to me as long as they treated me like a lady, and could afford our date.

But for some reason, Emily would hook me up with one of her boyfriend’s friends. And they would leave a lot to be desired.

For example, the time we went to the movies as a double date. I should have taken the hint when her boyfriend’s friend said, I think I left my wallet at home. He pats his back pocket as if he would put a wallet there, or could afford a wallet. He looked like the type if he had any money it would be in his socks. Wallets were for men who carried credit cards and some cash. The way he dressed with his low slung jeans, and a dark blue hoodie, and when he jumped around when he heard sirens, which gave me the impression he could have been wanted for something.

When I whispered to Emily as we exited her car she said, Jackie why are you so suspicious. Don’t be so hard on him. He’s cute. I didn’t know what she was looking at and clearly it wasn’t the same thing I saw.

If he’s so cute, you go out with him the next time. I bet you won’t think he’s so cute, I whispered standing in line waiting to pay for two tickets.

I looked at him thinking that this was bullshit and I have to pay for another date. I had seen that move before.

Pulling out my purse, I paid
