    The buttons of the mixing board dug into the full curve of my ass, but I didn’t care. Roman’s lips trailing down my neck was all I cared about. I cared about getting my groove on with the white producer, and the last thing I was thinking about was being safe or cautious.

    And damn did it cost me.

    When I first heard back from Survival Records, I thought I was finally going to be making a name for myself. I had never expected such a big company to be interested in my music, but I wasn’t going to turn down a meeting with one of their top executives.

    That executive was Roman Wayne and when I first saw him, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

    Ms. Freeman, he greeted me when I arrived at his office.

    Um, hi, was all I could muster when I met the man who thought my demo was worth his time. He had stood to greet me and the second thing about him that I noticed was how damn tall he was. Easily over six feet, with broad shoulders, and he was dressed in a very sharp suit.

    But the very first thing I noticed about him was that he was white.

    So you are the one who liked my demo? I asked as I sat down across from him.

    Of course, he said, a charming smile on his lips. And I’m very excited about, Ms. Freeman.

    Please, I stopped him. Call me Taye.

    Okay, Taye, he said, his smile only warming more. So, tell me a bit about yourself as an artist.
