How to Get a Job When the Employer’s Market is Working Against You - Rachel Halcomb
Dedication
This book is dedicated to all of the people who have struggled and suffered over the last few years to try to get a job, any job. The struggle is real.
Introduction
Have you recently had a hard time advancing in your career field, or are you one of the thousands who are looking for a job, any job at this point that will pay the bills?
––––––––
All politics aside, the United States has been in an economic down spiral for the last five years. Neither side can argue this fact. Unemployment initially skyrocketed after the economy tanked in 2008 and then the unemployment numbers gradually slacked off as people learned how to live on nutrition and welfare assistance or left the job market altogether due to retirement, disability, or self-employment.
––––––––
Unemployment is still at an all-time high whether the numbers reflect it or not. Many people have resorted to depression era tactics to make ends meet such as doing odd jobs for cash, yard sales, online sales, reclaiming scrap materials, and farming in their yards.
––––––––
There has been a mass exodus from the cities to create rural homesteads, people are returning to the old ways
of living off the land by hunting, fishing, gathering, farming and only making what they need with what they can find, big homes and suburbs are now avoided as the tiny home movement has exploded, and many young adults are forgoing even owning a home and deciding not to have children because they simply cannot afford it.
––––––––
Some of the results from the economic decline have been good, families have banded together, communities have grown stronger, materialism and consumerism are no longer the focus for many who simply cannot afford it, parents are starting to stay home and care for their own children and people in general tend to be more understanding with the struggles of others.
––––––––
With the good there also comes bad as corporate greed is at an all-time high and a particularly vicious employers market has formed.
––––––––
I have struggled, my family and friends have struggled in their own ways and none of our lives are or ever will be the same as they once were. For some this struggle and change has been devastating, and for others they have endured and prospered anyway.
––––––––
This book is not especially long; however, most people just do not have the time to read a lengthy dissertation on searching for a job. I have outlined many possible reasons why you may be struggling to find gainful employment through no fault of your own and the steps to circumvent the problems or eliminate them. It is my hope that by making a few simple changes in how you are looking for employment and manage your information that you will finally obtain the job you deserve and are willing to work for.
The Employer’s Market
After the economic decline there were fewer jobs available than qualified applicants to fill the positions,
