How to Get a New Job Fast! - Nick Nichols

    Introduction

    Rule #1 for Job Searching

    in Turbulent Times:

    There are no rules –

    except the ones you make!

    ––––––––

    Rule #2:

    Re-read and follow Rule #1.

    ––––––––

    Hello and Welcome!

    ––––––––

Congratulations on making a great decision to acquire The New Job Fast System! (NJFS). By taking this action you have already demonstrated the key job search success trait: You are willing to try an innovative approach! This is what will set you apart from all the people who use conventional methods. This is what will get you hired.

    ––––––––

Using traditional methods almost makes a person feel like a beggar asking for a handout. Won’t somebody please give me a job? the average frustrated job seeker laments. From now on you do not have to do what everyone else does. You can be different. You can use these strategies and tactics to get yourself in front of the people who can hire you.

    ––––––––

This system will teach you how to land your dream job in less time and with less frustration and disappointment than you ever thought possible! I suggest that you read this entire book once through before taking any action. Make notes as you go along. Then, start again at the beginning and go for it! You will have the means to get the job you always knew you could do at the salary you deserve.

    ––––––––

No matter what your situation is at this moment, remember this: Confidence and success come from the present and the future, not the past. It’s not where you’ve been. That’s irrelevant. It’s only where you are now and where you’re going that matter.

    ––––––––

It’s interesting that as you discover the secrets of the NJFS, you will find that your whole perspective about job searching shifts. You may catch yourself sighing with relief as you learn that you are an incredibly valuable person with lots to offer the world. After you read and study the NJFS, your confidence level will increase dramatically, and your self-esteem will soar to new heights.

    ––––––––

It’s as if you suddenly became empowered by a newfound sense of your own self-worth. Armed with the strategies contained herein you will know how to market that value to the fullest extent possible.

    ––––––––

Here is the first and most

    important secret of the NJFS:

    ––––––––

Whatever you think you do, what you really do is solve problems for your employer and its customers, clients, patients, or members. The better you are at solving those problems, the more valuable you will be and the more money you will make. It’s that simple!

    ––––––––

The sooner you understand that communicating your problem-solving abilities is the most important part of the job-search process, the sooner you will land your dream position.

    ––––––––

By the way, from now on when I say customers I will also mean clients, like an accountant, lawyer or other professional might have; patients, like a health care provider might have; members, like a non-profit group or association might have; or constituents, like a governmental agency might have. So think in terms of the market that your potential employer serves and just substitute.

    ––––––––

Instead of dwelling on your limitations, think about your potential to be whatever you want to be. Remember, there are no rules!

    ––––––––

The following is presented as a guide based on the author’s experience, that of his clients, and information from other sources believed to be reliable. Your mileage may vary (YMMV).

What you MUST Do Before You Start Your Job Search

Before you start your job search you MUST make sure your online presence is as positive and clean as possible! The higher the level of the position you seek, the more important this is. But that aside, do you really want your personal details available to anyone who is willing do a little searching or pay a nominal fee? Don’t put this off!

    ––––––––

You are what the internet says you are and one of the first things most potential employers will do if you are under consideration is search for you to check you out.

    ––––––––

Step 1: Set up your tools

    ––––––––

To be effective in assessing your online presence, you will need a couple of tools. First, you will need to create a spread sheet – such as an Excel spread sheet – to keep track of your work. A landscape view (horizontal) Word document with tables will work as well. And you will need an email address that is only used for your reputation management. I recommend creating a new Gmail account for this. Do not use an existing email address.

    ––––––––

    Step 2: Start searching

    ––––––––

Start in Google by searching for the name most people know you by. For example, if your birth name is James but you go by Jim, start with Jim and your last name. and see what comes up.

    ––––––––

Then search using your birth name, your full name, your name with a middle initial and all variations of your name and the state and city you live in now, and states and cities where you resided in the past ten years. Do the same in Bing and DuckDuckGo – a new, up-and-coming, privacy-oriented search engine that does not keep track of your search history.

    ––––––––

The good news is, if your name is the same as or similar to someone famous, chances are their name and associated organic search listings will eclipse listings for you, at least on the first two-to-three pages of search results. Many people won’t go beyond three pages of results but some will. So you should check the first ten pages of organic results for your name and variations.

    ––––––––

Organic results are the free listings that are associated with a search. Other listings include Maps/Places listings that are usually associated with businesses and pay-per-click ads that can be associated with products, services, brands, and people’s names.

    ––––––––

Ads for people’s names are used by Big Data sites like My Life, Spokeo, Been Verified, White Pages and other data aggregators. It’s possible – even likely – that Big Data sites already have profiles on you.

    ––––––––

And if you are active on Facebook and other social media sites, it’s likely that those profiles, photos, posts and other activity will show up in search results as well.

    ––––––––

    Step 3: Clean and Sanitize

    ––––––––

You must sanitize your social media profiles as soon as possible. Delete any photos, videos, posts, etc. that could be construed as negative, controversial, or otherwise detrimental to your job search. The sooner you do this the sooner these items will likely be disassociated with your name. Likely, but not guaranteed.

    ––––––––

It is possible that you appear in or are tagged in photos, videos or posts that are in other people’s accounts. If any of these might depict you in a less than positive light, you should ask to have them removed. Ideally, the other people will cooperate.

    ––––––––

Whether your name is common or not, you will probably see pay-per-click ads sponsored by the Big Data sites that purport to have information on that name that is for sale. This is especially the case if you have an uncommon or unusual name.

    ––––––––

You will need to investigate all ads that profess to have information on your name. This is where your spreadsheet will be invaluable. It can be painstaking but the more thorough you are in keeping track of your efforts, the more successful you will be.

    ––––––––

You will need to click on every ad that claims to have info on your name and follow the steps to see if it’s really you. This involves adding your state, city, and age to your searches with each site. Then click on any listings that may be the real you. This is where it gets tricky, because if you find a listing that you think is the real you, some of the Big Data sites make it difficult to generate a direct link to that listing. It’s often trial-and-error.

    ––––––––

Fortunately, I have found that most if not all Big Data sites will remove your information if you know how to ask. The problem is, they don’t make it obvious on how to ask, and they change their deletion protocols periodically. So any specific instructions I could give you here would likely be out of date within a short time.

    ––––––––

The good news is that if you get stuck, you can probably find detailed instructions posted by good Samaritans on how to remove yourself from Big Data sites.

    ––––––––

To start the deletion process, search for remove data from ABC 202X – where ABC is the Big Data site you want to target and X is the current year. Because these instructions are provided free, they may or may not be accurate. Just keep trying and you should be able to locate the current removal instructions for all the sites.

    ––––––––

I have done this for myself and family members and it has worked. Some of the sites are in a network, so getting deleted from one automatically deletes you from related sites. After getting data deleted from one network site, I have not found any info on related sites. The key is to initiate removal from every site and eventually your data should be deleted – or at least hidden and not available for sale.

    ––––––––

I have no proof, but I suspect the Big Data sites may keep our info despite our wishes. See this Wired article: www.ez7.me/wired (redirect link)

    ––––––––

Note that there are services that claim they can get your info deleted for a monthly fee. I have never used them and was successful on my own. (YMMV)

    Frustration Eliminators

Before we start on your career search adventure, here are three important job search frustration eliminators:

    ––––––––

    1. Be detached.

    ––––––––

Treat all job prospects with careful attention, but do not become attached to any job possibility or you may set yourself up for disappointment.

    ––––––––
