Megan... Barrows?

Megan looked up from her computer screen, as the mail room worker reached her desk. Yeah?

The pimply faced twenty-something tossed a thick envelope to her, and continued on his way down the aisle of cubicles, pushing his mail cart before him. Megan shrugged, and tore the letter open. Inside was a thick stack of documents, and a small folded check.

Lois, her friend and cubicle-neighbor, popped her head over the cubicle wall, and grinned. Ooh, personal letter. Who's it from?

Before Megan could reply, the tall redhead lifted the empty envelope from her desk, and read the return address. She frowned. Wait, this is from a law firm. She saw the check, and cocked an eyebrow. What's up, Megan? You win some lawsuit, and forget to tell me?

Megan looked up at her friend, and rolled her eyes. It's an inheritance check, Lois. My grandmother died.

Oh. Lois stepped around the short carpet-covered wall and into Megan's cramped cubicle. Sorry, I didn't know. Um...

Megan let the silence grow until it was painfully awkward, before finally chuckling. Gotcha!

She handed Lois the check. "I mean, it is an inheritance. But granny died like five years ago, so it's not exactly a recent loss. Anyway, she didn't leave a proper will, and my aunts and uncles have been fighting over her property since she passed."

Megan scanned the papers quickly, then gestured to a small handwritten letter among the legal documents. Hmm, that's interesting...my godmother Gladys says the family finally agreed to just auction my grandmother's farm off, and I get my mother's share. It's weird though, I figured they'd be fighting forever.

Lois nodded, unfolding the check absently. And gasped. Damn, Megan! This is for twenty-five grand! She caught herself, and took a deep breath. Then she knelt beside Megan's chair, and whispered, You have any plans how you're going to spend it?
