Sandra stared at the package, frowning. She had found the tiny paper-wrapped box shoved into her campus mailbox just before leaving for her morning classes.

Now she sat in the upper levels of a packed auditorium, while her boring professor talked about introductory chemistry. As usual, she ignored him entirely, and instead had spent most of the class examining the mysterious package.

She reread the short letter that came with the package, and finally made up her mind. She peeled the paper back and stared at the simple wooden box underneath. Taking out the tiny metal key that had been taped to the accompanying letter, she unlocked the box and looked inside.

The box's interior consisted of only a fine felt lining, holding a small red stone in place. Sandra furrowed her brow and looked back at the letter.

This has to be a joke, She whispered to herself.

A thought came to her, and Sandra stealthily looked around the auditorium, searching for hidden cameras. Students packed the seats, more than a hundred of them altogether. Several were playing with their cell phones, ignoring the professor's lecture, but no one seemed to be trying to film her.
