True Bible Study - First and Second Peter - Maura K. Hill
Book Titles by Maura K. Hill
Preface
It is my desire to make known God’s Word and Will, so that people will have the opportunity to be saved, come to full knowledge of the truth, and live in accordance with God’s intention. God’s Word was and is and will continue to be Truth. It is the Word of Life.
This book includes information about the following:
God and His son, the Lord Jesus Christ
Prophecy
Salvation and behavior
Sufferings and glories
The day of the Lord
I have studied and continue to study the Greek papyri and texts of the Bible extensively, and it is from these that I make my Word Translation and Study to provide this in-depth study aid.
The words that the only true God spoke are the best words to communicate His thoughts. It is because of mankind’s interference, mistranslations, etc, of what God spoke and/or what was written down, and because mankind has removed himself in his thinking so far away from God’s thoughts and words, that I endeavor to help all of us come-back to the integrity and truth of what God says - His Word - His thoughts - His will.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss or comment on this Word Translation and Study via the Contact link on https://www.TrueBibleStudy.com.
Thanks to God for His love and grace.

Relevant Notes
Unless otherwise stated , all scriptures are quoted from the following:
The True Bible Study Word Translation (TBS);
The TBS Word Translation is translated from the Greek Papyri and Texts by Maura K. Hill.
The various resources and reference materials are listed at https://www.truebiblestudy.com/bible-materials.
In the TBS Word Translation and Study:
Words in a parenthesis () and italicized within a scripture verse are words inserted to help our English understanding of those words which are translated from Greek words.
Words in a parenthesis () in the study of the scripture verse are words of explanation regarding the words prior to the parenthesis.
Additional explanatory insertions within a scripture verse are enclosed in square brackets [] and italicized.
Additional explanatory notes in the study of a scripture verse are enclosed in square brackets [] and are usually in relation to the Greek or Hebrew texts.
A slash in the study of a scripture verse, such as: him/her, indicates an alternative word depending on the context.
A dash, such as: go there – to Jerusalem, indicates that a certain word or phrase is particularly important or deserving of extra emphasis.
Hyphenated words, such as: used-to-go, indicates that there is only one corresponding word in the Greek text.
Non-English words are printed with English letters.
I use an initial capital letter for all occurrences of the words Lord
and Master
when referring to either God or the Lord Jesus Christ due to my respect for them, therefore the reader will need to carefully consider the context of each particular usage to understand to whom that usage refers.
Where the word spirit
refers to God, I use an initial capital or upper-case S
- Spirit. But when the word spirit
refers to the gift of holy spirit, etc, I use a small or lower-case s
- spirit.
Underlined text is used for the English word but
when translated from the Greek word alla to show that it implies a strong contrast to that-which has just previously been stated, and/or to strengthen a command.
Underlined text is used for the singular form of the word you
to distinguish it from the plural form of the word you
which is not underlined.
Underlined text is also used for emphasis.
In order to communicate the fullness of the emphasis when the Greek definite article is repeated both with the noun and its adjective - for example: I Corinthians 15:4 the Greek is te hemera te trite, which literally means the day the third
– I translate it as "the day, the third (day)."
Verbs in the imperfect
tense are translated with the words used-to
and then the meaning of the verb.
For example: used-to teach
indicates that the one teaching spent time teaching, his action of teaching continued during a past time that is now finished for some reason, not that it was a quick one-time occurrence. The one teaching taught others taking time to teach, and he may have repeated his teaching at different times and in different ways. This tense is also used to historically describe past events relating what happened.
Verbs in the perfect
tense are translated from Greek with a superscript number 2 immediately following the verb - for example: it was written².
This tense indicates an action done during a past time and which has a present continuing result, meaning it is still the same at the time the verb was spoken or written. Therefore, this example could be translated as: it was written and continues written.
The noun love¹
or the verb to love¹
comes from the Greek word agape which is God’s kind of love.
When the Biblical writers wrote, there were no punctuation marks, no chapter or verse divisions indicated, etc, as we see them today in many of our English Bible translations and versions. Therefore we must read the whole context of each particular passage of Scripture for thought-content to more clearly understand the truth of what has been written.
Also, the original language was not English, and therefore when I may write that the writer said or wrote such and such, please understand that the writer actually spoke and wrote in the original language the equivalent to that-which I state in the English language to the best of my knowledge.
I recommend that while reading this book, you also have your usual Bible and Biblical study materials open, so as to compare verses and gain greater understanding of the truth of God’s Word.

Introduction to First and Second Peter
The letters (epistles ) of First and Second Peter were written by Peter, who was also known as: Cephas, Simon, son of Jona, a native of Bethsaida, and who lived with his wife in Capernaum. He was one of Jesus’ learning-disciples (refer to Matthew 4:18 and Acts 1:13).
Peter was the apostle who was there when the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ made it available for people of the Judean / Israeli background and of the Gentile / other-nation background to become holy-people (Christians) by receiving the gift of holy spirit (refer to Acts chapters 2 and 10). Peter wrote to holy-people thereby feeding the flock with God’s Word.
The letter of I Peter was written from Babylon between 60 - 64 A.D.; II Peter was written between 61 - 65 A.D.

First Peter
Chapter 1
¹:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ – to (the) selected-people, (who are temporary) residents of (the) scattering of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, .2 according to (the) foreknowledge of God (the) Father in holiness of spirit with-a-view-to obedience and sprinkling of (the) blood of Jesus Christ; may grace and peace be multiplied to you.
.3Blessed (is) the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the (God) having begotten us upwardly according to His much mercy into a living hope by means of (the) resurrection of Jesus Christ from dead-people, .4into an inheritance incorruptible and unstained and unfading, having been kept² in (the) heavens into you, .5the (people) being guarded in God’s ability by means of belief into salvation prepared to be revealed in (the) last time;
.6in which you must exult if being necessary now a little-while having been caused-sorrow in variegated temptations .7in order that the sure-proof of your belief – much-more-priced of gold, the (gold) being destroyed but being proved by means of fire – may be found into praise and glory and honor in (the) revelation of Jesus Christ, .8whom not having seen you love¹, into whom now not seeing but believing you exult with joy unutterable and having been glorified², .9bringing-to-yourselves the completion of the belief – salvation of (your) souls;
.10concerning which salvation prophets sought-out and searched-out, the (prophets) having prophesied concerning the grace into you, .11searching into what or what-kind-of time the spirit in them used-to make-clear of Christ witnessing-beforehand the sufferings into Christ and the glories after these (sufferings), .12to whom it was revealed that not to themselves but to you these (sufferings and glories) used-to minister, which now were announced to you by means of the (holy-people) having good-messaged (to) you in holy spirit having been apostled from heaven, into which angels intensely-yearn to bend-alongside.
.13On-which-account having girded-up the loins of your mind-process, being sober, you must completely hope on the grace being carried to you in (the) revelation of Jesus Christ. .14As children of obedience, not outwardly-figuring-yourselves-together with the former intense-yearnings in your lack-of-knowledge .15but according to the Holy-One having called you, also you yourselves must become holy in all behavior .16for-this-reason-that it was written², "You will be holy because I (am) Holy."
.17And since you call-upon (the) Father to-yourselves, the (One) judging unreceptively-of-faces according to (the) work of each-person, in fear you must behave (during) the time of your sojourn, .18having known² that you were not redeemed with corruptible-things, silver or gold, from your futile fathers’-traditional behavior
.19but with (the) honorable blood of Christ as of a lamb without-blemish and spotless, .20indeed having been known-beforehand² before (the) throwing-down of (the) world but having been manifested on (the) last of the times because-of you, .21the believers by means of him into God, the (One) having raised him up from dead-people and having given glory to him, so-as-for your belief and hope to be into God.
.22Having purified² your souls in the obedience of the truth into brotherly-love without-hypocrisy, from a clean heart you must stretchingly love¹ one-another, .23having been begotten-upwardly² not from a corruptible sowing-of-seed but an incorruptible (sowing-of-seed) by means of (the) living and remaining word of God,
.24for-this-reason-that "all flesh (is) as grass, and all (the) glory of it (is) as a flower of grass; the grass was dried and the flower fell, .25but the spoken-matter of (the) Lord remains into the age" – and the spoken-matter is this: the (spoken-matter) having been good-messaged into you.

Chapter 2
²:1 Therefore, having put-away all badness and all deceit and hypocrisies and envies and all slanders from-yourselves, .2 as now-begotten babies you must earnestly-long-for the logical un-deceitful milk in order that in it you may be increased into salvation .3 since you tasted that the Lord (is) benevolent, .4 towards whom (you are) coming, a living stone – by men indeed having been disapproved ² , but with God selected, in-honor – .5 and you yourselves as living stones are being built, a spiritual house, into a holy priesthood to offer-up spiritual sacrifices well-acceptable to God by means of Jesus Christ,
.6for-this-reason-that it contains in writing, "Look!, I am putting in Sion a stone: (the) extreme-corner, selected, in-honor, and the (person) believing on him may never be brought-down-to-shame."
.7Therefore to you, the (people) believing – (he is) the honor; but to (the people) disbelieving – "(the) stone which the (people) building disapproved this (stone) was caused-to-become into (the) head of (the) corner .8and
(the) stone of stumbling and (the) rock of offense," the (people) being un-persuaded stumble-against the word, into which also they were put.
.9But you (are) a selected genus, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a people into an acquisition, so-that you may announce the virtues of the (One) having called you from darkness into His marvelous light; .10the (people who were) at-some-time not a people, but now (you are) a people of God; the (people who were) not having been shown-mercy², but now (you are) having been shown-mercy.
.11Loved-people¹, I encourage as sojourners and (temporary) residents to refrain-yourselves-from the fleshly intense-yearnings, the-ones-which serve-as-soldiers against the soul, .12having your behavior beautiful among the Gentiles in order that in that-which they slander you as bad-doers, looking-on (the results) from the beautiful works they may glorify God in (the) day of overseership.
.13You must be subject to all manly creation because-of the Lord, whether to a king as being-superior, .14or to leaders as being sent by means of him with-a-view-to vengeance of bad-doers but praise of good-doers, .15because thus is the intention of God: (you) doing-good, to muzzle the not-knowledge of the thoughtless men, .16as freemen and not having the freedom as a cover-over of badness but as slaves of God.
.17You must honor all-people; you must love¹ the brotherhood; you must be fearful (towards) God; you must honor the king. .18Household-servants, (you must be) subjecting-yourselves in all fear to
