Maura K. Hill

Maura K. Hill was born and raised in Ireland. After working in Ireland and the UK for several years, she relocated to the United States in 1995. She began her formal education in Biblical Koine Greek and Biblical Hebrew at Phillips Theological Seminary via the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma in 1996.  A diligent student of the Biblical Languages, Maura published her first Greek-to-English Translation and Study Guide to I Thessalonians in the Fall of 1997. Since then, she published many additional, original Greek-to-English translations and comprehensive study guides for the New and Old Testaments. She has also published numerous and unique Biblical research articles on various topics. Maura continues her diligent research of the Critical Greek Texts and Papyri. Preface

It is my desire to make known God’s Word and Will, so that people will have the opportunity to be saved, come to full knowledge of the truth, and live in accordance with God’s intention. God’s Word was and is and will continue to be Truth. It is the Word of Life.

I have studied and continue to study the Greek papyri and texts of the Bible extensively, and it is from these that I make my Word Translation and Study to provide this in-depth study aid.

The words that the only true God spoke are the best words to communicate His thoughts. It is because of mankind’s interference, mistranslations, etc, of what God spoke and/or what was written down, and because mankind has removed himself in his thinking so far away from God’s thoughts and words, that I endeavor to help all of us come-back to the integrity and truth of what God says - His Word - His thoughts - His will.

o Underlined text is used for the English word but when translated from the Greek word alla to show that it implies a strong contrast to that-which has just previously been stated, and/or to strengthen a command.

o Underlined text is used for the singular form of the word you to distinguish it from the plural form of the word you which is not underlined.

o Underlined text is also used for emphasis.

o In order to communicate the fullness of the emphasis when the Greek definite article is repeated both with the noun and its adjective - for example: I Corinthians 15:4 the Greek is te hemera te trite, which literally means the day the third - I translate it as "the day, the third (day)."

o Verbs in the imperfect tense are translated with the words used-to and then the meaning of the verb.

o For example: used-to teach indicates that the one teaching spent time teaching, his action of teaching continued during a past time that is now finished for some reason, not that it was a quick one-time occurrence. The one teaching taught others taking time to teach, and he may have repeated his teaching at different times and in different ways. This tense is also used to historically describe past events relating what happened.

o Verbs in the perfect tense are translated from Greek with a superscript number 2 immediately following the verb - for example: it was written². This tense indicates an action done during a past time and which has a present continuing result, meaning it is still the same at the time the verb was spoken or written. Therefore, this example could be translated as: it was written and continues written.

o The noun love¹ or the verb to love¹ comes from the Greek word agape which is God’s kind of love.

When the Biblical writers wrote, there were no punctuation marks, no chapter or verse divisions indicated, etc, as we see them today in many of our English Bible translations and versions. Therefore we must read the whole context of each particular passage of Scripture for thought-content to more clearly understand the truth of what has been written.

Also, the original language was not English, and therefore when I may write that the writer said or wrote such and such, please understand that the writer actually spoke and wrote in the original language the equivalent to that-which I state in the English language to the best of my knowledge.

I recommend that while reading this book, you also have your usual Bible and Biblical study materials open, so as to compare verses and gain greater understanding of the truth of God’s Word.

Introduction to First Timothy

This letter (epistle) of First (I) Timothy is the first of two letters written by Paul, the apostle, to Timothy. He wrote this letter around 67 A.D. some years after his release from prison in Rome recorded in Acts chapter 28.

Timothy had already received the gift of holy spirit from God by means of the Lord Jesus Christ because he had already been taught and he believed God’s Word. Timothy’s mother was a holy-person (Christian) of the Judean/Israeli background and his father was of the Gentile (other nations) background. Paul first met Timothy as recorded in Acts 16:1-3 and traveled with Paul many times. He is also mentioned in some of Paul’s other letters.

In this letter Paul gives Timothy many instructions on how holy-people (Christians) with different functions within the one body of Christ, the church, should behave themselves in accordance with the will of God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Word Translation - First Timothy

Chapter 1

¹:¹Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to a command of God our Savior and Christ Jesus our hope – .2to Timothy a genuine child in belief; grace, mercy, peace from God (the) Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

.3According as I encouraged you to remain in Ephesus, (while I am) journeying into Macedonia, in order that you may charge to some-people not to differently-teach, .4neither to have-attention to fables and interminable genealogies the-things-which present seekings rather than God’s stewardship, the (stewardship) in belief;

.5but the completion of the charge is love¹ from a clean heart and good conscience and belief without-hypocrisy, .6which some-people having failed were turned-out into futile-wording .7intending to be law-teachers not mentally-perceiving neither the-things-which they say nor concerning what-things they throughly-make-firm.

.8But we knew² that the law (is) beautiful if-ever someone lawfully may use it .9having known² this that law is not laid for a righteous-person but for lawless-people and unsubjected-people, not-reverential-people and sinners, unholy-people and profane-people, father-beaters and mother-beaters, murderers-of-men, .10fornicators, homosexuals, men-traffickers, liars, perjurers, and if some different-thing is adverse to the teaching being sound .11according to the good-message of the glory of the Happy God which I was trusted-with.

.12I have thanks to the (one) having enabled me – Christ Jesus our Lord – because he led (his mind to regard) me believing having put (me) into (the) ministry, .13formerly being a blasphemer and a persecutor and a hurtful-person but I was shown-mercy because unknowing I did (those things) in unbelief, .14and the grace of our Lord became-superly more-and-more with belief and love¹, the (belief and love) in Christ Jesus.

.15The word is believable and worthy of all acceptance that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first .16but because-of-this I was shown-mercy in order that Christ Jesus may point-out all-together patience in me first towards an under-type of the (people) being about to believe on him into eternal life. .17But to the King of the ages, incorruptible, unseen, only God, (is) honor and glory into the ages of the ages, with-certainty.

.18This charge I put-beside you, child Timothy, according to the prophecies leading-forth on you in order that you may serve-as-a-soldier in them the beautiful soldiery .19having belief and good conscience, which some-people having thrust-away shipwrecked concerning the belief .20of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander whom I gave-over to satan in order that they may be trained not to blaspheme.

Chapter 2

²:¹Therefore I encourage first of all to make supplications, prayers, intercessions, thankfulnesses on behalf of all men, .2on behalf of kings and all the (people) being in superiority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all reverence and reverential(-behavior).

.3This (is) beautiful and acceptable before God our Savior .4Who intends all men to be saved and to come into full-knowledge of truth, .5for (there is) one God and one mediator of God and men – man Christ Jesus, .6the (one) having given himself a redemption on behalf of all-people, the witness at (its) own times, .7into which I was put a herald and an apostle, I say truth, I do not lie, a teacher of Gentiles in belief and truth.

.8Therefore I deliberately-determine the adult-males to pray in every place lifting-up holy hands without wrath and through-calculations. .9Likewise women to orderly-arrange themselves in an orderly-arranged array with reservedness and sound-thinking, not in weaved-hairs and gold or pearls or much-priced clothing .10but that-which becomes women promising Godliness by means of good works.

.11A woman must learn in quietness in all subjection .12but I do not permit a woman to teach neither to self-impose (her) adult-male but to be in quietness, .13for Adam first was molded, then Eve, .14and Adam was not deceived, but the woman having been wholly-deceived became² in a stepping-aside .15but she will be saved by means of the childbearing if-ever they may remain in belief and love¹ and holiness with sound-thinking.

Chapter 3

³:¹(b)If someone reaches-for overseership he intensely-yearns a beautiful work, .2therefore it is necessary (for) the overseer to be irreproachable, husband of one wife, sober, sound-thinking, orderly-arranged, loving-strangers, apt-to-teach, .3not wine-oriented, not quick-to-stroke but considerate, without-fighting, without-loving-silver, .4beautifully standing-before (his) own house having (his) children in subjection with all reverential(-behavior) .5(but if someone did not know² to stand-before (his) own house, how will he be-concerned-for God’s church!),

.6not newly-planted in order that having been conceited he may not fall-in into judgment of the devil, .7but it is necessary also to have a beautiful witness from the (people) from-outside in order that he may not fall-in into reproach and trap of the devil.

.8Likewise ministers (to be) reverential, not two-worded, not having-attention to much wine, not shameful-gain, .9having the mystery of the belief in a clean conscience, .10but even these-people must firstly be approved, then they must minister being not-arraigned. .11Likewise wives (to be) reverential, not devilish, sober, in all belief. .12Ministers must be husbands of one wife beautifully standing-before (their) children and (their) own houses, .13for the (people) having beautifully ministered acquire a beautiful step for themselves and much boldness in belief, the (belief) in Christ Jesus.

.14These-things I write to you, hoping to go towards you in quickness .15but if-ever I may be-slow, in order that you may know how it is necessary to behave in (the) house of God which is (the) church of (the) living God, (the) pillar and seat of the truth, .16and agreeably great is the mystery of the reverence which was manifested in flesh, was made-righteous in spirit, was seen by angels, was heralded-forth among Gentiles, was believed in (the) world, was taken-up in glory.

Chapter 4

⁴:¹But the spirit speaking says that in times afterwards some-people will depart-from the belief having-attention to wandering spirits and teachings of devils, .2in hypocrisy of word-liars having been seared² (in their) own conscience, .3hindering to marry, to refrain-oneself-from foods which God created with-a-view-to a reception with thankfulness by the believers also having fully-known² the truth .4that every creature of God (is) beautiful and nothing throwing-away being received with thankfulness .5for it is made-holy by means of (the) word of God and intercession.

.6Putting these-things from-yourself to the brothers you will be a beautiful minister of Christ Jesus being in-nourished with words of the belief and of the beautiful teaching which you followed-beside², .7but the profane-people and old-womanish fables you must refuse; and you must exercise yourself towards reverence .8for the bodily exercise is profitable towards a little-thing but the reverence is profitable towards all-things, having promise of life, the (life) now and the (life) being about-to (come).

.9The word (is) believable and worthy of all acceptance, .10for into this we labor and contest because we hoped² on (the) living God Who is (the) Savior of all men especially of believers. .11You must charge and teach these things.

.12Not-one-person must despise your youth but you must become a type of the believers in word, in behavior, in love¹, in belief, in purity. .13Until I come you must have-attention to reading, to encouragement, to teaching. .14You must not be unconcerned of the gracious-gift in you which was given to you by means of prophecy with (the) putting-on of the hands of the elder. .15These-things you must care-for, in these-things you must be, in order that your advancement may be manifest to all-people. .16You must hold-on to yourself and the teaching, you must remain-on them, for doing this you will save both yourself and the (people) hearing you.

Chapter 5

⁵:¹Let you not be quick-to-stroke-upon an elder but you must encourage (him) as a father, younger-men as brothers, .2elder-women as mothers, younger-women as sisters, in all purity.

.3You must honor widows, the (widows) really-being widows; .4but if some widow has children or grandchildren they must learn firstly to reverence (their) own house and to give-away requitals to (their) parentages, for this is acceptable before God – .5but the really-being widow, also having been left-alone², hoped² on God and remains with the supplications and the prayers night and day, .6but the (widow) being self-indulgent died² (while) living –

.7and these-things you must charge in order that they may be irreproachable, .8but if someone does not have-in-his-mind-beforehand (for those) of (his) own-people and especially of the household-people he denied² the belief and is worse-than an unbeliever.

.9A widow must be enrolled not having become² less-than sixty years, wife of one husband, .10in beautiful works being witnessed-of, if she nourished-children, if she
