Whether To, Or Weather: Not To

About this ebook
I was captivated by the weather at an early age. This book describes some of the unique weather-related experiences I've had during my lifetime and how they helped pique my interest in this subject.. Most notable were incidents involving severe weather like thunderstorms, snowstorms and hurricanes. Highlighting my experiences has been my amateur meteorologist volunteer effort as a Tampa Bay (Fl.) area Weather Spotter. An analysis of more than 613,000 pieces of rainfall data recorded during the past seventeen years has led to some interesting conclusions about southwest Florida weather trends. Culminating my writing is a brief discussion about climate change.
For those individuals having a special interest in weather, my book should be a pleasant read.

I am a retired Nondestructive Testing Engineer/Manager living for the past twenty-five years with my wife Judy in Sarasota, Florida. At one point in my life, as a junior in college, I considered entering the field of meteorology. When that didn't materialize, I made a personal vow to become an amateur meteorologist and monitor the weather when I retired --- and that's what I did beginning in 1999.Unique lifetime weather experiences together with a very satisfactory eighteen years monitoring the local weather while volunteering as a Weather Spotter for the National Weather Service led me to write 'Whether To, Or Weather - Not To'.

Introduction
Everyone is aware of the weather and, to some extent, most of us understand how weather influences our lives. But I suspect few are obsessed with this subject as I am – in fact I might be considered by some a weather fanatic. This obsession is so great that recently I made the decision to write about my life-long weather experiences. But this decision didn’t come quickly.
For several years I pondered ‘whether’ to, or not write about the ‘weather’– hence the title of this memoir. And, as I thought more about this, it dawned on me that we all make frequent ‘whether’ or not decisions relating to the ‘weather’ – in my case, not just in the decision to write about it, but also in the every-day living adjustments I make because of the weather. Decisions like: whether or not I can get my tennis match in before predicted bad weather strikes; whether or not the pool water temperature is warm enough for an early AM swim; whether or not to seek shelter in our ‘safe-room’ closet as the hurricane approaches; and with imagination, the list of whether or not possibilities seems endless. So, by now you get the message -- I am quite serious about the weather!
What contributed to this crazy obsession? That’s what this memoir is about -- describing the many life-long weather-related experiences that brought weather to the forefront of my mind as a frequent priority.
Definitions
Before I begin, I think it important that I define weather and then differentiate it from another closely-related subject – climate. Weather can be described as the state of the atmosphere at any given time and includes such things as temperature, precipitation, air pressure & motion (wind) and cloud cover. Meteorologists are scientists who use state-of-the-art technology to measure these atmospheric conditions and issue day-to-day weather predictions. Over the years, with
