Nature’s no-show
As autumn edges towards winter, there is a sense of change in the air. The lush green cover that dominated over the summer months is now a distant memory. Change hasn’t only been visible on the ground but also in the skies: migrating birds are more visible and the continual honking of geese making their way from the Arctic is an open-air opera.
October is an exciting month in the deerstalking calendar, usually for the larger species, but roe stalking can also be productive. The rut that concluded in August has caused the bucks to rest and recuperate from the brutal yet enjoyable few weeks. Bucks simply vanish following the rut. Most of us take a break from stalking in September after reaching a crescendo by late August. Quelle surprise —
