About this ebook

Excerpt from upcoming Trusted Rebels Book One - Joanna667 (Joan of Arc vs. The Robots - A Dystopian Adventure)

Joshua Raintree is a man in need of assistance. Seeking that help from an old acquaintance he finds himself more than 500 years in the future, in the middle of a maze and fighting for his life.

He quickly discovers that this is a world where machines have reinvented the gods of mythology, reclassifying them with a modern spin. The Techno-Pagan church is at the center of the One World Caste System that controls the daily lives of both robots now called Entities, and Humans called either Augmented or Mundane.

Can a Mundane from 500 years in the past be the answer the Entities are looking for to finish the maze? If he does will the new gods present themselves as prophesized? Or will Joshua find that his plea for help finds him lost in the Mundane Moon Maze?

This excerpt from the Storyteller’s Bed and Breakfast will get you ready for the upcoming dystopian sci-fi series ‘Trusted Rebels - Book One - Joanna667’ due out in September 2015.

    Author’s Note:

My name is JW Scott, I also write under the pen-name of Xavier P. Otter III. I’ve written Political Thrillers under JW Scott, the primary audience is adult readers, as well as Fantasy-Adventures as Xavier which are more for children-of-all-ages.

This excerpt was originally introduced in the ‘Storyteller’s Bed and Breakfast’ (a series by Xavier) in which we built a world of new gods and entities. Which influenced my daughter and I to devise the ‘Trusted Rebels’ a dystopian sci-fi series which feels more like a JW Scott title as it will have both political and religious undertones.

    The Question:

Which author name to put it under?

    The Answer:

Re-release the Mundane Moon Maze as a standalone short from JW Scott as a prequel to the Trusted Rebels Series. With complete permission from Xavier P. Otter III (myself) to do so.

I hope you’ll enjoy it and will support the launch of our ‘Trusted Rebels - Book One - Joanna667’ due out mid to late September 2015. If you would like a review copy, simply join our mailing list prior to the launch, follow the confirmation process and we will send it to you an electronic copy.

    Love and Strength,

    JW Scott

    Introduction of this Excerpt:

The Storyteller’s Bed and Breakfast is a fun look at reality TV. Several guests arrive on a beautiful island vacation resort with an opportunity to have their entire trip paid for, just by telling the best story. This island however, is a magical place where stories the guests tell can come to life and even pull them in.

Such is the case leading up to this excerpt; two of the staff of the island have been kidnapped by a villain from literature, Father Frost. Joshua Raintree is attempting to find help within the magical rooms of the Bed and Breakfast to rescue them.

Entering the Library Room to ask the robot librarian, Calibre to assist him Joshua finds himself caught up in another adventure, the Mundane Moon Maze.

And so we join our story already in progress…

    A Blast from the Past

Joshua walked into the Library and began looking about for Calibre, surprised she hadn’t immediately accosted him. Hello, Calibre are you here? his words echoed off the walls.

He continued to walk looking for her, feeling like a kid sneaking through a neighbor’s yard because it would save five minutes. Creeping quietly he found her in what appeared to be a vacuum tube from a bank. Not wanting her to shoot off to parts unknown before he could ask for her help he pushed the only button next to the tube.

Upon its release there was a ‘woosh’ sound as air that smelled like short circuited wires escaped the tube. Calibre? There was no response to Joshua’s words. Hello, Calibre I need your assistance. When there was still nothing from the Entity he reached his hand in and touched her shoulder.

The same ‘woosh’ and the same smell of shorted wires surrounded him, This may have been a bad idea. He said aloud, to the utter darkness of parts yet unknown.

What may have been a bad idea? Calibre’s voice resonated from all around him. He still felt alone in the darkness.

Trying to wake you in your resting tube, Joshua said to the disembodied voice. Where are we?

We’re in the space between. Calibre said.

    Between what? he asked.

Between thought and action... Between imagination and reality… Just Between. To move forward we need a destination, she replied.

I want to be at the Bed and Breakfast, I need your help. Molly and Kharon have been kidnapped. Joshua said.

We must go forward to understand how I can help you, my old friend. The lights of Calibre’s eyes appeared in front of Joshua. Please provide an affirmative, so that we may proceed.

Ok, if that’s the only way you can help then take me to your leader. He joked.

I don’t have a leader in the sense you - she started.

Ok, ok, yes I’m ok with it go ahead, Joshua’s frustration evident.

    Please relax. Calibre said.

Like that’s gonna happen. Joshua closed his eyes and held his breath.

    Open your eyes. Calibre said.

Oh my giddy aunt. Joshua exclaimed when his eyes adjusted to the brightness. He stood on a platform a couple hundred feet above a city that he didn’t recognize. More importantly he stood next to Calibre, who to Joshua’s utter surprise was no longer a scuttling robot-esque woman. She was now a 5’9" beauty, complete with a highly fashionable dress, high heels and a large brimmed hat sitting at
