CHAPTER 1 – TREE HOUSE HQ

I might only be 7-years-old, but I’ve already worked out that, in life, not everything adds up.

I’m Addie by the way – founder and main mathematician of the Mystery Math Squad.

I know what you’re thinking. You’ve never heard of the Mystery Math Squad before. Well, that’s because our gang is top secret.

It was my idea to create the MMS, an elite group of super detectives who help people solve problems with math. Once I’d come up with the idea, I needed some members, so I brought my best friends on board – Linus, Trixie and Devon. The four of us have two main things in common: we love a good mystery and we are all the best at math in our class.

Permission to enter the tree house, came Linus’ voice from the garden below.

I leaned out the tree house window. His scruffy mop of hair was blowing in the warm breeze.

Permission denied, I shouted down to him. ...until you answer a question, that is.

Please, Addie, I think I’m in serious trouble! Linus shouted back.

Devon peered out too. He does look concerned, Addie. Maybe you should just let him in.

No, I said to Devon. Everyone has to follow the rules.

From the corner, Trixie rolled her eyes.

I looked back out the window at Linus. As main mathematician, I’ve decided you have to answer a double question today.

Whoopee Doo! Linus exclaimed sarcastically. He glanced over his shoulder quickly then back up at me. Can you just get on with it, then?

I thought for a moment so I could come
