About this ebook

A joyful celebration of LGBTQ+ vocabulary for kids of all ages!

A playdate extravaganza transforms into a celebration of friendship, love, and identity as four friends sashay out of all the closets, dress up in a wardrobe fit for kings and queens, and discover the wonder of imagination. From A is for Ally to F is for Family to Q is for Queer, debut author/illustrator M. L. Webb’s bright illustrations and lively, inclusive poems delight in the beauty of embracing one’s truest self. A glossary in the back offers opportunity for further discussion of terms and identities. The GayBCs is perfect for fans of A Is for Activist and Feminist Baby—showing kids and adults alike that every identity is worthy of being celebrated.

From Ally to Intersex to Pan to Vogue, this rhyming alphabet book introduces terms mostly related to LGBTQ lives and culture, as a quartet of diverse kids hang out and play together. (Hope, Mountain and Unique are general intangibles.) A glossary in the back defines the terms. A couple of the rhymes don't work as structured but for parents and educators who want to instill inclusivity in their children, this is a good resource.

This was a nice little rhyming book and none of the letters were really stretched to make them fit the theme which I liked. I also like that they kept a cadence and saved more complicated definitions for the back glossary.

This is a cute little important book! For goodness sake, I'm so tired of the "protect your children", and "let them have a childhood" rhetoric. This book is super age appropriate, there is nothing offensive or in bad taste. Your children are in safe hands here. (Noted as well: there is a new/board book version that changes A from ally to A is for Aro or Ace, which is good, as aro/ace erasure is common. Thanks to the author/publisher for listening to the feedback, and correcting it!)

The message is good, but a little is lost in the execution. Not wild about the illustrations, and some of the rhymes don't scan, which is a personal pet peeve for which I refuse to apologize.

I don’t think this is something that kids should be seeing at such a young age. This is awful.

Disgusting filth. Doctor Seuss is cancelled but we're gonna show this reprobate nonsense to kids? Repulsive
