How to prepare a business plan - Oral Ballantyne

Introduction:

A goal without a plan is just a wish. – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

––––––––

You may be somewhere in college right now trying to figure out your future in the world of business. It may be that you are required to make a business proposal as a requirement of your college programme. Or, it may be that you are a stay-at-home mom who has come up with some creative ideas to solve some problems moms frequently face at home. Maybe you are an unemployed father looking for the next business project or a teenage girl looking for a foothold into the world of business with you business idea.

If business is your goal, this book is for you. If you are a complete novice who has an idea but does not know where to begin, this book helps you to see beyond just a simple goal. It is time to show commitment to your idea by putting it into a concrete plan that you can take to the persons or institutions whom you may wish to help you get this idea into a product or a service.

I have been advising and supervising the preparation of business plan for students for over three years. As a Programme Coordinator in the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management at the Associate degree level, I have supervised and helped to shape many business plans to meet industry’s standard. I have also seen many approval letters from financial lending institutions for these plans which met the requirements necessary to convince a lender that you are serious about business. I would like to share with you my experience and tips to guide you in preparing a successful business plan. This book is aimed at achieving two things:

1. To force you to think through your business idea thoroughly, and

2. To create a business plan that can help you communicate this idea effectively to your potential investors.

Lets begin.
