The power of lemons has been used for centuries. Lemons have been a popular cooking ingredient and cure-all in Asian countries, especially since the lemon tree is native to the area. Although lemon trees are native to Asia, eventually lemon trees were cultivated in Europe, and later, Christopher Columbus would introduce them to the Americas.
Although multiple types of lemons exist, different types of lemons generally contain about the same amounts of nutrients. One raw lemon without its peel has only 17 calories, 0.6 grams of protein, and 0.2 grams of fat. Unlike many other fruits, lemons are very low in sugar with only 1.5 grams of sugar per lemon. Of course, lemons are well known for their high vitamin C content, and a single lemon offers you approximately 51% of your daily vitamin C needs.
