About this ebook

When the Lich King is incapacitated, the Horde falters. Leila and Aewyn band together a group of survivors and head back to their home to the fallen kingdom of Erun. As Robyn and Grace depart for their own mission, Rick and Kara join in their stead. Both are human survivors of the vicious Horde attack. When the survivors cross the seas and land upon the lands to the East, they encounter the remnants of the Horde.

Rick decides to stall for time so that the others can run, but it is of no use as a group of Orcs ambush Leila's group. When Rick finds Leila and Aewyn, he learns that Kara and several others have been taken by the Orcs. Leila is highly suspicious of Rick after he survives against insurmountable odds.

He reveals that he has the ability to become a beast, a Berserker, able to unleash a rage that even Orcs cannot hold back. Leila, Aewyn, Rick and a group of survivors find the Orcs and descend upon them. But while they were looking for the Orcs, was Kara able to fend for herself?

The Realms of War 12 - Jenna Powers

Leila stared off at the sea as the ship she was on gently rocked back and forth.  She turned her head as she heard footsteps near her.  Aewyn, her sister, nodded and gave her a big hug from the side.

    We’re almost there, Aewyn informed.

Their whole party, after the freezing of the Lich King, had managed to find an abandoned Horde ship.  Along with some other survivors from the Alliance, they were able to make their way back across the seas, back home to whatever remained of the Kingdom of Erun.

    Are you okay?  Aewyn asked.

No... I keep... I keep seeing his face, Leila answered.

    Captain Oronar?

Yes.  He gave his life for us and now, I had no idea he had been made into a member of the undead, Leila said.

She could still see her former Captain’s face.  He had been a noble member of Erun’s elite force, protecting the King and Queen for centuries.  The fact that he had been turned in death made her blood boil.

We could have saved him, Leila continued.

No, there’s no way to bring him back.  He’s no longer the Captain you once knew, Aewyn replied.

He recognized me.  We could have found a way, Leila said sadly as she continued staring out at the seas.

And that would have risked all our lives.  We barely made it out of there, Aewyn reminded.

Leila sighed and nodded.  Robyn and Princess Grace had stayed behind, hoping to help rebuild their own Human kingdom with any members of the Alliance that wished to stay.  She wondered if they were safe, considering the fact that the Horde, while fractured, still existed.

Leila and Aewyn had hoped that across the seas, the Horde had disbanded or at least, retreated away from their homes.  The two had contemplated going South first, to the Elven kingdom of Laron.  When they had initially been attacked, the Elves had split, the majority head down to Laron.

The last remaining member of the royalty of Erun, Princess Meriel was sound asleep within the ship.  Leila still couldn’t believe that Queen Arwen was the very reason why their home was destroyed from within.  She had experienced the same effects that the Queen had, the Call of the Krakenos, and knew how difficult it was to break free from the potion’s effects.

What do you think will remain of Erun?  Leila inquired.

We can hope for the best but brace for the worst, Aewyn answered as she sighed.

What do you think happened to Captain Lucuder?

Aewyn shrugged.  Hopefully not lost in the seas.  I can’t imagine he’d survive out there without much support.  And if he returned...  I would guess that the Horde would’ve easily torn through his forces.

Captain Lucuder had been sent on a voyage across the seas to the East due to rumors of the Horde, most likely perpetrated by the Queen herself.  Leila had watched the Elven ships sail off before the Horde had attacked.  Captain Oronar had been adamant that they not leave but his wishes had been brushed aside.

A tall, bearded human approached them, clad in broken pieces of armor.  He smiled and nodded at the two sisters.  Leila and Aewyn had met the soldier, along with his compatriots, not far off from where they had found the abandoned ship.

    Rick, was it?  Leila asked.

Correct ma’am.  We’re right near the shore.  Captain’s readying to dock, he informed.

Thank you.  How is everyone doing?  Leila asked.

Not too bad.  Mostly tired.  Kara did a fantastic job fishing while we were at sea.  The woman is just amazing, Rick replied.

Leila nodded, recognizing the name.  Kara was another human that she and her sister had rescued at a farm after escaping from the frozen Lich King.  The two sisters had managed to fight off the group of Trolls that had captured the human.

The ship slowed and turned as it neared the shore.  Leila watched as people began untying the knots holding the smaller boats on the side of the ship in place.  She could see plumes of smoke in the distance, most likely fires from fallen villages and castles in the wake of the Horde’s destructive path.

Princess Meriel made her way up along with the other survivors.  She saw Leila and Aewyn and made her way over to them.

    Princess, Leila greeted.

Oh please, just Meriel is fine.  Like kingdoms even matter at this point, Meriel replied.

They matter now more than ever, Aewyn said.

Princess Meriel’s demeanor had changed since they had escaped.  It seemed as though she had lost her will to lead the Elves.  Leila didn’t find it surprising considering the ordeal everyone had been through.

Royalty is nothing in the face of this disaster, Meriel responded.

Yes... to a certain degree.  But in times like these, we need stability.  The last remnants of who we once were in Erun, lies with you, Princess Meriel, Aewyn said.

I don’t think I can be that leader, Meriel said solemnly.

"Your father, King Amdor, I knew him well.  When
