About this ebook

Zac is a young teen who does not think before he acts. One of his silly actions goes very wrong, causing young witches at his school to put a number of curses on him. As a result he cannot even catch a ball before it bounces off of his head. He needs help, but he is nasty and mean to those who try to help him. As his troubles get worse, he learns to trust people and take their advice, mostly, until his temper flares up once again and he finds himself in more trouble.
Zac's story is fun to read and interesting for tweenies and young teens to think about.

I was born in Cincinnati and grew up in the American Mid-West. I graduated from the University of Notre Dame and received a Masters in Education from the University of Cincinnati. I became a teacher and found a job teaching English and Film and Television at Trinity Bay State High School in Cairns, Australia. As a teacher I wrote many One Act Plays that students enjoyed performing in. I became the Rugby coach at the school and began writing novels that my students could read, relate to and understand. I decided to publish the novels under the name of Teen Friendly Books. At present I have 24 written and 15 published. My plan is to write many more books for teens to read and enjoy.

    Chapter 1

    Witches and Curses

Zac heard the roar and felt a blast of heat on the back of his neck. He turned around and saw a huge fire-breathing dragon flying straight toward him. He dove to the ground and rolled under to a rotting log.

The dragon flew close to him with its claws outstretched trying to grab him, but he was too far under the log to be snatched.

Zac turned his head to the left. He wanted to run into the forest but a two-headed snake-like monster with eight arms blocked his way. A sword appeared at the end of each arm. The creature was ready to attack with eight weapons.

Zac stood up and ran to his right but he bounced off the leg of a giant with massive muscles staring down at him.

The oversized brute said, A deadly curse has been put on you, the only way to remove it is to defeat the three of us in combat.

He did not know where to start. All three beasts looked very nasty and all of them were ready to fight him.

You have three questions to consider, Zac heard. Where will you begin?

Zac looked up at the fire-breathing dragon ready to swoop down on him again. The two-headed monster was about to charge with its eight swords waving in the air and the giant picked up two monstrous clubs, the size of trees and was moving toward him.

Zac, Zac? When are you going to start?

Zac looked up and saw Ms Jonson walking toward him. She was going to be looking at the work on his computer screen in a few seconds.

He quickly turned off his game. He switched instantly back to reality.

He was sitting in History class. He was supposed to be working on his project about the Middle Ages but he had been playing a game on-line instead.

Show me your Word document and the three questions that you chose to research for your project, Ms Jonson said.

Zac looked at his Word document. There was nothing written on it.

Ms Jonson also looked at his screen and saw that he had no words on it. Where are the questions that you are going to research? she asked.

I was going to, he began to say when Ms Jonson stopped him.

I need to see some work. Get something written or you will be staying in at lunch, Ms Jonson said quite strongly. What topic are you thinking about researching?

I was thinking about knights, Zac said.

Fine. What about these knights? Ms Jonson asked.

Zac quickly thought back to his game, They had to go out on quests and defeat monsters that got in their way, he said.

Miss, can I ask you about young witches? Amie, who was sitting next to Zac, asked.

I’ll be with you in a minute, as soon as I finish talking to Zac, said Ms Jonson.

You can talk to Amie now Miss, I’ll get on with my work, Zac said.

Ms Jonson said, Okay, but I’ll get back to you in a few minutes, Zac, and turned her attention to Amie.

I want to find out more about witches and why so many young girls were accused of being witches, but I can’t find any information on that, said Amie.

That idea has potential, where have you looked so far? Ms Jonson asked.

I Googled covens and black magic but neither one of those gave me information about young girls, said Amie.

Try typing in young witches or trials of witches, said Ms Jonson. That might get you to some sites that tell the stories of some of the young girls who were blamed for the bad things that happened in the villages.

    Thanks Miss, Amie said.

Now, Zac, getting back to your knights and monsters, Miss Jonson said.

I know what I am going to do, Zac said. I am going to look up the curses that were put on knights by witches, Miss, and how they had to go on quests to get rid of them.

It’s a bit ambitious to link curses and witches and knights and quests and monsters into one project, Ms Jonson said.

At that moment Michael joined the conversation, Are curses real, Miss? Are witches real?

Why are you listening to our conversation and not doing your work? Ms Jonson asked.

Zac asked, Are there any young witches around today that put curses on people?

I don’t know if there are witches around today, Zac, said Ms Jonson, but I doubt if there are any people at this school who have the power to put curses on others, if that is what you mean.

Zac became quite excited. I’ll bet there are witches at this school, he said quite loudly. I’ll probably meet a few at lunch and have some curses put on me.
