    Swanky Soiree or Classy Cocktail:

    Planning Your Event

    1.

    Swanky Soiree or Classy Cocktail?

It’s time to put on your best party dress and red lipstick or that grey sport coat in the back of the closet, because it’s party time.

What kind of party you ask? That depends on what type of event you would like to host. Let’s explore…

Are you looking to invite a few friends on a Tuesday after work for cocktails and Hor D’oeuvres? Then a classic cocktail party it is.

Are you planning dinner out with friends followed by a night of dancing and would like the night to continue for a little longer? Then a swanky soiree is what you want.

Do you have friends and family coming for the afternoon? Then a classic get together is what you have.

Are you thinking about having a few friends for dinner Sunday night? Then a classic dinner party is on the agenda.

Did you find a great wine at the local beverage mart and want to share it with your friends? Then a wine tasting is right up your alley.

Maybe you have just won an award or the local bowling tournament. Then a champagne brunch is on the menu.

Each event has its own party guidelines which help to plan the event from start to finish. Knowing the type of event you are having helps to determine time, length, menu, and guest count. It also helps to plan what beverages you will be serving.

    Let’s Get the Party Started

Most events can be considered a pre-planned gathering, meaning you know ahead of time people will be arriving at your home. Back before computers, texting, Facebooking, and Skype the general rule of thumb for inviting guests to your home was mailed invitation. It seems that this practice has mostly been reserved, now, for larger gatherings of people such as weddings, showers, and large venue events.

As a former personal chef, I still advocate the use of paper invitations for several reasons. They serve as a physical reminder of the upcoming party (and can be put on the refrigerator), they give all the necessary vital information needed to attend, and they set the mood for the party.
