The last game of the year had been circled on the calendar ever since Collin was forced by his parents to take over as the coach of his little sister’s soccer team, the Rainbow Zebras. But that was before the team started playing good soccer and had a chance to win a game or two, instead of getting blown out of every game. And that was before he’d met Mrs. Brooks and got the offer of a lifetime. That circle was something he had looked forward to.

Now, after a great last few weeks, with the team gelling and, more importantly, some of his best fantasies coming to life, he looked at that circle and became a little sad.

He was going to miss coaching all the girls, and even training Hannah daily had become something he looked forward to. He was really going to miss the games, the enthusiasm and excitement that those girls showed during those games wasn’t like anything else. He had played in high school and even in college and never, not once, had his teammates showed the same passion as those nine year old girls.

However, most of all, he thought, he was going to miss seeing Julia Brooks on an almost daily basis. It was silly he knew, she was a married woman, ten years his senior, with a kid the same age as his little sister. But he had fallen in lust with the sexy soccer mom. In fact, he wondered if maybe he actually loved her. No, he thought to himself as he shook his head and forced himself to think of her dressed in that naughty cheerleading uniform, not just her sweet smile, her infectious laugh and the smell of her body lotion.

On Friday evening the team had its final practice, it was a beautiful fall evening, warmer than average and the sun was still out. Sensing the girls needed a break from soccer, instead of actually practicing Collin had the giggling girls play games. Tag and Capture the Flag were team favorites and they forgot about soccer and just had fun.

Before they left the field, Collin gathered the girls around and gave a rousing speech, saying he was proud of them and really loved coaching them. A few of the girls cried because they loved having him as their coach, and each one of them went up to hug him before they went off to their respective mom’s minivans.

As the girls cleared out, only his sister, Sarah and her best friend, Hannah, were left behind. The girls ran to the nearby playground, and jumped on the swings. Before Collin could even turn around they were already swinging at maximum height. He went back to cleaning up the deserted field only to be joined by the woman who occupied his dreams these days.
