About this ebook

Every team member is motivated by a collectively shared sense of vision and mission, which is more important to them than personal gain. Objectives are pursued selflessly and sacrificially for the benefit of the team as a whole. Team members are valued not only for their performance contributions to the department or ministry, but also because they are members in God’s kingdom. The way people work together, therefore, is as crucial as what they are striving to accomplish.

    GUIDE TO USING THE BOOK

    •    The PEOPLE CENTRED LEADERSHIP APPROACH (FROM ME TO WE) book is a multi-faceted and professional resource that can be beneficially used by individuals and teams. Its materials are carefully designed to stimulate organizational and ministry efficiency and productivity. This book promotes both the understanding and the practice of effective leadership and management within the ministry, business unit, department and entire organizational setting.

    •    The good way of starting to use the book is to have group members individually overview its contents, highlighting the discussion material they find most relevant. Such can be given priority for subsequent group sessions. Chapter Study Reflection at the end of each chapter gives team members a chance to reflect on where they currently are, where they would ideally be and what Next Steps are necessary to move them from where they are to their ideal leadership place within their respective context. These can be completed individually or as a group of team members.

    •    As soon as team members have agreed on how they can utilize the book, then periodic discussion/brainstorming sessions should be scheduled. Such planning will help insure not only that the resource materials are used, but that each team member is well-prepared for the fluid, free-floating discussion sessions that will follow thereafter. Who should be included in the meetings? Ideally, the rule is to include everyone in the organization who is directly impacted by the management and leadership practices—at least for those group meetings of personal relevance.

    •    Team leaders should coordinate the periodic team get-togethers, making certain that the aims and processes of each session are clearly explained to facilitate individual homework. Every team member should know in advance which pages of the book are to be read and pondered upon.

    CONCEPTUALIZING TEAMWORK FUNCTION

    1.   The aim of The People-Centred Leadership Approach (From Me to We) is to create a fertile climate for team-leadership, emotional and spiritual service—a sense of shared mission, wise stewardship of resources, and mutual supportiveness.

    2.   The aim of The People-Centred Leadership Approach is not excellent leadership per se. Leadership is merely a means to the end of serving God and humanity.

    3.   Team members are valued not only for their performance contributions to the department, however, also because they are members in God’s kingdom.

    4.   The team has to function as a family of people who do care about each other, and for one another.

    5.   The aim of The People-Centred Leadership Approach is to be people-centred and collaborative by nature.

    6.   This book places a high premium on cooperation and collaboration – teamwork in traditional terms.

    7.   Every team member is motivated by a collective vision and mission, which is more important to them than personal gain. Objectives are pursued selflessly and sacrificially.

    8.   The way people work together is as crucial as what they are striving to
