Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, said the pilot over the airplane intercom. we are preparing to make our final approach to Sir Donald Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay Jamaica. Current ground temperature is a balmy 35C, with a slight ocean breeze out of the north east. Local time is 4:45 pm. Our total flight time today after landing will be about four hours and ten minutes. I hope you've enjoyed your flight, and on behalf of the airline and flight crew it has been our pleasure to have you aboard. We sincerely hope you enjoy your stay in beautiful Montego Bay, Jamaica, and we hope to see you again soon. Flight crew prepare for landing.

A small round of applause came from the passengers as the pilot concluded his message. The flight attendants made their way up and down the aisle, collecting garbage and ensuring everyone was seated with their tray tables up, their seatbelts fastened, and had turned off all of their electronic devices. Martin had turned off his MP3 player and his wife Karen put away her e-reader just as the flight attendant came by.

I hate this part, said Karen as she clasped Martin's hand.

Nothing to worry about dear, said Martin reassuringly. This is completely routine, they do it a hundred times a day.

I know, I know, said Karen as she breathed a few slow, deep breaths to calm down.

Karen wasn't the best flyer. Truthfully, flying wasn't her issue. It was take off, landing and generally any time the ride got more than a little bumpy. She did her best not to let it impact her life and she promised her husband she would be ok for this flight. It was their first vacation in years after all, and it would be a shame to let a little fear of flying ruin it.

The plane touched down on the tarmac without issue. After a slight delay near the terminal, the plane docked at its gate and the passengers slowly disembarked from the plane. As Martin and Karen stepped off the plane they could really feel the warmth and humidity in the tropical island air.

The late afternoon sun was setting in the distance, filling the airport with bright orange light through the bank of windows near the airport gates. Martin and Karen followed the rest of the crowd from the plane towards the luggage pick up carousel. Martin told his wife to wait by the perimeter with their carry on bags as he wormed his way up to the carousel to get their checked luggage. Martin's frame wasn't big enough to push his way to the front of the line, but at 5'9" and only 165lbs he was able to sneak and weasel his way through. The only thing that slowed him down was bit of a gut around his waist line. But Martin made it to the edge of the carousel and waited for his bags to come down the chute.

A loud buzzer sounded and red light flashed as the carousel came to life. Luggage dropped down the central chute and slowly made their way around the large oval loop. One by one people grabbed their bags off the carousel and made their way towards the exit, leaving room for the next person to grab their luggage. Martin waited patiently as he watched bags of all colours, shapes and sizes slowly pass him by. Finally, he saw the bright green tag of one of, and then the second of his bags. Martin waited for the two pieces to make their way around to his position and scooped them up off the carousel. He pulled the handles of his wheeled luggage up, and snaked his way back to where Karen was waiting. As he cleared the crowd Martin spied a tall, lean black man with dreadlocks chatting up a beautiful, statuesque blond woman dressed in a short sundress.

Oh Karen, muttered Martin to himself, always getting so much attention.

Karen looked bemused as the stranger tried to chat her up. He spouted off some line or another as Karen politely smiled and gave minimal responses. He wasn't being rude, but he certainly was being forward with her.

So, ya know baby, I can show you 'round the island, make sure you have a good time, said the stranger
