- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Dee Wallace's Bright Light is in part a memoir and in part a new age self help book. (In case you are wondering who the heck Dee Wallace is - she played the mom in ET.) Her philosophy seems very similar to the the New Thought movement and The Secret - basically that positive affirmations, thinking and energy can heal both mind and body and help one achieve ones life goals.Dee walks us through her career and personal life and points out when and how things went well and explains what she was doing energetically at that time. She also is not shy about pointing out her shortcomings and explaining how she unconsciously sabotaged her life at times. As an amateur actor myself, I found reading about her acting classes and techniques very interesting. I also liked learning more about the professional side of the business. I was less interested in her New Age philosophy but by the end of the book, she had me thinking that she might be on to something. There is not much "how-to" information in this book but she includes a bibliography of recommended books at the end if the reader wants to learn more about her spiritual practices.I've always had a soft spot for Dee Wallace since she's from Kansas City so I was pleased that she came across as charming and likable in this book. Fans of hers will like it as well as people interested in reading about the spiritual journeys of others.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I absolutely loved this book. My recommendation is to read the rules to live by in the back of the book if nothing else. I believe in the light that Dee was shining on staying in the moment, learning the lesson that is offered and being gracious enough to thank our lucky stars for the opportunity to be on this earth plane. Raising out energy high helps the whole world to thrive!!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is an absolutely charming book, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a little uplifting motivation or anyone who wishes to do a little internal reflection. Dee Wallace is bright, witty, and very insightful. This book definitely exceeded my expectations!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I was fortunate to win a copy of this thru Library Thing and I liked it a lot. It is about Dee Wallace, an actress and it is not your typical autobiography or self help book. You do not need to be an actress to apply some of the principles that are in this book. I got a lot out of it and so much so that I loaned it to a co-worker, hoping that she gets as much out of it as I did. The basic premise is a lot like the book, The Secret, but uses Ms. Wallace's years of experience and wisdom, mixed with metaphysical and spiritual undertones. I highly recommend this book to anyone, and it is also a great addition to any library.

Dee Wallace is an actress, but also after years of experience and reflection, a metaphysician. In Bright Light: Spiritual Lessons from a Life in Acting, she charts the course of her acting career through an infinitely reflecting obstacle prism of doubt and fear, until she breaks free of all traps, and glides into the open water of universal love and trust. The wisdom gained along the way, as the barrier of poverty thinking is destroyed, is collected in the 12 essential life lessons that allow our own energy, the source of everything in our lives, to flow easily.
I am not sure what I enjoyed most about Bright Light. Was it the odd contrast of funny and self-deprecating comments contrasted against some serious and painful recollections, such as the unexpected death of her loving husband Christopher Stone? Was it the wonderful layout, keeping the heavier, necessary commentary on the metaphysical observations in an appendix, rather than interspersing them in a wonderful, mostly airy memoir that happens to intersect with the metaphysical? Was it an insider's look at the world of acting, and its pitfalls. Or was it simply that Dee Wallace's journey is one that we all share as Spirit taking on a human experience.
For those who have not yet figured out how to keep self-sabotage from tearing through their lives, and for those who have wisdom, but occasionally fall down a negativity hole despite it, this book will provide excellent teaching and comfort.
