About this ebook

I love this book. It is a road map of where we are and where we're going. In which direction do you want to go? Are you listening to the World or the Word? We desperately need direction in today's modern world. That's a given. How many distractions do we find as we travel our own road to Damascus? That's where it began for me. Where will it begin for you? In this book, the direction is laid out simply and succinctly. - Candy Runyan

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to a dear woman of God who through her generosity of spirit gave me the laptop computer on which I have written all my books. Clara Chapman’s gift of love has blessed me and many others with a testimony of His faithfulness to us as we Listen for His Voice.

    Melanie and Clara

Puritan Prayer from Valley of Vision

"Expel from my mind all sinful fear and shame, so that with firmness and courage I may confess the Redeemer before men, go forth with Him hearing His reproach, be zealous with His knowledge, be filled with His wisdom, walk with His circumspection, ask counsel of Him in all things, repair to the Scriptures for His orders, and stay my mind on His peace, knowing that nothing can befall me without His permission, appointment and administration."

    My Friend Melanie

    by Candy Runyan

It was Wednesday Bible Study at 10:00 a.m. sometime in late summer or early fall, 2004. That week, it was the usual group. Maybe a couple of newcomers, some come back, some don't. You know the ones that are constant because we sit in the same seats every week. The table was one like you would put a tablecloth on to serve a pot luck supper. Long and narrow. Seats all around and usually full which amounted to a maximum of 14, maybe 16 people, including the priest.

This particular day, I walked in early and saw one lone woman sitting at the table. I had never seen her before. Her presence was undeniable even if the table had been filled with people. There was something about her and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. She was not unfriendly but I immediately felt a bit intimidated. I didn't know why but eventually found out there was a purpose in that moment that would change everything.

I don't remember how many Wednesdays went by. Most Wednesdays the table would be completely full of eager faces anticipating the lesson of the week. The lesson was straight from the Bible, no book club, that's for sure. Bible teaching only.

There was a round table in the corner with four chairs. It was behind everyone else. One Wednesday, I noticed her sitting at that table, alone. A few Wednesdays went by and she was still sitting there by herself. One Wednesday I felt that nudge to sit at the table with her and here begins the story of my journey to a life changing healing through the power of the Holy Spirit.

You see I am, what some call, a late in life Christian. I was not raised in a church. I was 37 when I came to The Lord through a most Godly man I worked with and who patiently led me along the way by the power of the Holy Spirit. I didn't even realize what was happening. After attending church for a couple of years or so, you could say I had a 'road to Damascus experience' and, for me, it was an astounding revelation. I remember the exact moment it happened. From there on out, I couldn't get enough. It was a glorious time. I felt I was growing in the faith...except for one not so little thing.

Fast forward twenty years. Yes, twenty years of this thing that was keeping me from experiencing the fullness of God's love for me. I kept pushing it aside, hoping it would just go away...it didn't. The Lord, in His mercy, put another most Godly person in my life, Melanie Hoover. He had a lot more work to do with me and she would be the one He used to bring me along to one of the most healing miracles in my life.

As we sat in Bible Study on Wednesday mornings, I listened as she made comments and made excellent points that made me want to know her more. She knew her stuff and I knew just enough to know she knew her stuff and it was so much more than I could have imagined. By this time
