A small black car was travelling at speed along the bypass. The driver was paying more attention to his phone than the road and so it was hardly surprising that he failed to spot the cyclist riding close to the white lines at the side. It was only when he heard a loud bang that he realised his vehicle wasn’t the only one on the road that night. He looked in his rear-view mirror and spotted a cyclist in a high-visibility jacket lying on the ground. The driver could have stopped.
