If I drink too much of your liquor,
And should be foolish enough to get tight,
Would you be a perfect gentleman,
And see that I get home all right?

A full moon on a dark night,
And the road downhill all the way to your door.
Irish
May you have food and raiment,
A soft pillow for your head,
May you be forty years in heaven,
Before the devil knows you’re dead!
Irish
Dance as if no one were watching,
Sing as if no one were listening,
And live every day as if it were your last.
Irish
May you never lie, steal, cheat or drink.
But if you must lie, lie in each other’s arms.
If you must steal, steal kisses.
If you must cheat, cheat death.
And if you must drink, drink with us, your friends.

May your health be like the capital of Ireland—
Always Dublin!

He can hold onto one blade of grass and not
Fall off the face of the earth.

Is very drear.
Up with the glass,
Down with the beer!

Someone to give, someone to roast.

Loyal, willing and able.

With one extra year to repent!

In all this world, why I do think
There are four reasons why we drink:
Good friends,
Good wine,
Lest we be dry
And any other reason why.
Irish
Many happy returns of the day of your birth:
Many blessings to brighten your pathway on earth;
Many friendships to cheer and provoke you to mirth:
Many feastings and frolics to add to your girth.

And the cure most fair is the self-same hair
Of the dog that gave the bite."

Four and twenty Yankees,
feeling very dry,
Went across the border
to get a drink of rye,
When the rye was opened,
the Yanks began to sing
God bless America,
But God save the King!

BAR LINGO

An apricot liqueur produced in France.
Absinthe
Absinthe is a bitter, emerald-green alcoholic beverage made from wormwood. Popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was often mixed with sugar and aniseed to moderate its bitterness and impart a licorice flavor. When mixed, absinthe turns opaque white. Chronic absinthe drinkers began to suffer from symptoms of hyperactivity, addiction and hallucinations; consequently, most countries banned its use around 1900. Vincent Van Gogh and Ernest Hemingway were absinthe drinkers. Pernod, sambuca and anisette are modern replacements.
