Applause thundered around the ballroom as Eileen Jansen made her way to the stage. Guy Jansen gawked at his wife, appreciating the way her navy blue cocktail dress hugged her hips while she moved gracefully through the sea of chairs and people. When she arrived onstage, Eileen smoothed down her dress and smiled before accepting an ornate crystal trophy from the Ladies' Society chairwoman. She cradled the award in one arm and dutifully hugged the chairwoman with the other before approaching the podium. Eileen tilted the microphone up as high as it could go and began her speech.

Oh my goodness! Thank you all so, so much!

Eileen glanced briefly at the trophy and then beamed out at the audience.

I'm so proud to be part of this amazing organization. We've had a lot of late nights and long days, but all the sacrifice and hard work is worth it when we can say that we've made a difference. I've got to thank our tireless chairwoman, Carrie, and all of the support staff—thank you ladies and gentlemen, we couldn't do what we do without you. I've also got to thank all of our generous donors, especially since some of you paid five hundred dollars a plate just to be here tonight!
