Preface
Miranda ran through the woods as fast as she could with her pregnant belly. She was trying to get away from her ex, Marquez, because she had tricked him into getting her pregnant. Prophecy stated that she would give birth to the most powerful baby the world had ever seen and she wanted that power to herself. She had only allowed him to get her pregnant for that very reason. She would kill the baby as soon as it took its first breath and absorb its power. She was pure evil like her mother and many others before her, and she wasn’t ashamed of it.
She got to the clearing and lay on the ground. It was hard, cold, and wet but it would have to do. It wasn’t as if she had anywhere else to go at the moment, so it was either the ground or nowhere. There was a full moon, which meant that the baby’s powers would be even stronger on that particular night. She could feel the contractions getting stronger which meant that at any time, the baby would be arriving. Owls were hooting and animals in the forest were acting antsy as if they knew something was about to happen. There was a slight chill in the air and a pungent dog odor. Suddenly, a sharp pain ripped through her body and she knew that it was time to push. Just as she started to bear down, Marquez came out of the woods, and her heart rate started sped up.
You’re a sick woman you know. I’m not going to let you kill my baby. I’ll kill you first,
said Marquez in his deep voice.
She smirked at him. She had been drawn to him because he possessed a strong aura and she needed a strong man to ensure that the baby would indeed be powerful. There’s nothing that you can do Marquez. As soon as she is born, I’m going to kill her. You have no idea the amount of power she will possess, or what I can do with it once I take it from her. You don’t even know the kind of power that I possess, so your threats mean absolutely nothing to me,
she spat at him. Her body was starting to overheat and she could feel sweat dripping down her face.
I don’t care what kind of power she possesses or what kind of power you possess; she’s still my baby and I won’t let you kill her.
He stepped towards her but Miranda jumped back. He smirked because he knew that she couldn’t go far. He possessed his own power and with his senses knew that the baby was about be born in a matter of a few minutes. You can’t go far Miranda; I know the baby is almost out.
How do you know?
she heaved. It could take a while for her to come out of me. We could really be here all night.
She was trying to stall him but she knew that he was smarter than that.
I have secrets of my own as well. You think that you know me so well, but really you don’t know anything at all.
Another sharp pain ran through her body and she pushed down with all of her might. She heard crying and knew that the baby was out, but before she could reach down for it, Marquez was on her.
Get away from me. You don’t think your precious baby girl will be evil too? By the time she turns eighteen she will be the most evil witch to walk the planet,
said Miranda. You might as well just let me kill her because you would be doing the world a favor.
Marquez leaned down to her ear. That may be so but your blood isn’t the only one running through her veins. I’m not who you think I am, and if she turns evil then I will kill her just like I did you.
A confused look crossed Miranda’s face. Kill me? I’m not dead yet Marquez.
He wrapped his hands around her throat and squeezed until he felt her neck snap. Now you are.
He lifted up her dress and tended to their screaming baby. He tied a shoestring around her umbilical cord and cut it with the pocketknife he had in his pocket. He picked up his baby and looked into her eyes. She looked so precious with her light skin and chubby round cheeks. He wrapped her up in his jacket and turned around only to come face to face with Angela, Miranda’s mother.
What do you want? As you can see your precious daughter is no more and if you don’t want the same to happen to you then I suggest you walk away.
She smiled. You really don’t scare me Marquez. What do you plan on doing with this beautiful child, my grandchild?
I plan to raise her. She’s my daughter and I will do anything to make sure that she is protected in this world.
She’s not an ordinary child you know. She possesses great gifts. She needs to be raised around someone who understands her, who can nurture her talents.
And you think that I’m going to just hand her over to you? You’re just as bad as your daughter is. I will raise my daughter and if Miranda was right and she turns completely evil by her eighteenth birthday, then I will kill her as well,
he said with more confidence than he felt. Truth be told he wasn’t sure what he would do if she turned completely evil. All he could do was hope for the best and hope that his blood would overpower her mother’s.
Are you sure that you could kill your own child? That will be a very hard task to do. You will have already formed a bond with her.
We all have to make hard decisions.
Angela nodded her head. Very well but don’t say that I didn’t warn you.
She walked off across the wet grass and disappeared into the woods.
Marquez looked as she disappeared and then he looked down into his daughter’s eyes. At that moment, she seemed so innocent but if what was supposed to happen to her held true; he knew that he would have to end her life. She wasn’t supposed to have been born in the first place. He had strayed away from his mate to be with Miranda, but now he knew that it had all been a trap. She had cast a spell on him that made him lust after her and seek her flesh. Once he did so, his mate had left him, and wouldn’t take him back. He accepted that because he’d committed the ultimate betrayal. He’d betrayed his mate, his pack, and ultimately his one-year-old son. He was now going to have to be a part time dad to him because he couldn’t bring an outside child back to his mate. He couldn’t walk away from her though because ultimately he could never turn his back on a child that was a part of him. That wasn’t who he was.
He glanced down back at Marissa and her eyes were glowing. They were a deep yellow color like his. His son on the other hand had a light bluish glow to his eyes. He smiled because that was a trait from him. Maybe, just maybe, Miranda was wrong. He turned around and walked back through the woods to his car. He placed Marissa in a little basket that had warm blankets inside of it and got into the driver’s seat. He had it there in hopes that he would get to Miranda in time to stop her from committing the act of killing their child. He cranked the car and started on his long drive home. It was very dark outside and only a few cars were on the road due to the rural area. There was really nothing to see out there but cows, chickens, trees, and ponds. He loved the fresh air and the fact that he could be who he truly was. His closest neighbor was miles away and if Marissa started to change then it wouldn’t raise suspicion with people because out there, no one really knew one another and they kept
