    Toxic - Kristina Howells

    Preface

This book is a collection of short stories that are aimed at young women. It has been written to highlight the dangers that can occur when allowing our hearts to be misled.

There are many dangers out there in our society, that when you try to tell teenagers, and even young women today, and educate them. They always seem to be on the defensive.

Unfortunately for many it ends in misery and heart break. They had wished that they had listened to the advice of their parents.

Today there are very few teenage romances that last. Young women are influenced by television. Their eyes are closed to the reality of the world.

Many young women suffer from depression if the love of their life dumps them. Some will change boyfriend because that seems cool to do so. Some young women will fall in love and do not realise what dangers this can bring.

It can be heartbreaking for all concerned when things go badly wrong. Many young women don’t live to tell the tale.

Fortunately there are only a small percentage of young women that does. But for those that can’t it is then left to their families to highlight the truth.

We have all fallen in love when we were teenagers. We have all been there and worn the t-shirt. Some of us have had a lucky escape and not have had a relationship with a psycho.

Yet the more I read the newspapers and the more I watch television, the dangers are very much in front of us. No women are safe from the men in society that get off in doing harm to others.

It is the job of being a writer to show the dangers through fiction in order to wake up the young women and educate them through literature. It is hoped, that after reading this book; you will be more careful when choosing who you want as your boyfriend or lifetime partner.

Teenagers and young women today need to be more intelligent and analyse their boyfriends. Dangers must be prevented.

This book is complete fiction, all names and circumstances have been changed. Domestic Violence must be highlighted as a major crime.

More needs to be done to protect women, and educate women into getting help. No-one needs to put up with abuse, no matter how much you love that person; it isn’t love it’s control.

It was love at first sight for Michelle. A sweet 16 year old girl with youth on her side met Lee outside the school gates.

He was often there waiting for time to pass by. When one day Michelle couldn’t help but notice this charming handsome brown hair and brown eyed adolescent.

    ‘Hello,’ she nervously said.

‘Hi,’ he replied; ‘fancy coming for a walk.’

    ‘No problems.’

Together they walked to the nearby park where they started to talk about themselves. Michelle began to relax in his company. She couldn’t believe how easy he was to talk too.

Lee and 18 year old trainee chef needed impress her with words that would set the scene for a new date.

‘Are you free tomorrow?’ he asked.

    ‘Yes,’ she replied.

‘I’ll meet you here at the school gate after school had finished.’

    ‘No problems see you tomorrow,’

Michelle made her way home singing with joy. She had never had a boyfriend before. She never felt worthy enough to have them.

All her friends had boyfriends and she often wondered when it would be her turn. She was looking forward to going to school the next day to tell her friends all about Lee.

    Michelle had now arrived home.

    ‘Hello love,’ said her mother.

    ‘Hi mum.’

‘Had a good day at school love?’

‘You know the usual stuff,’ she replied.

‘Tomorrow mum, I’ll be a little late home from school as I’m going on a date.’

    ‘A date,’ her mother exclaimed.

    ‘Yes a date.’

    ‘Be careful.’

    ‘Oh mum,’

Michelle couldn’t help but think that her mum was just being a little too prudent. She had no reason to be after all he wasn’t much older than her and at least he was training to be a chef.

Over dinner Michelle tried to convince her mother that he was really a genuinely nice guy, and that she had no reasons to be worried. After all it was only the second date.

‘Where mother’s instincts are proved wrong?’ her mother thought as she said goodnight to her daughter.

The next day Michelle had met Lee as planned and everyday they started to spend more and more time together. Michelle loved being in his company and enjoyed it when he started getting intimate with her.

Within no time Lee and Michelle were inseparable, and he was soon knocking on the door of Michelle’s house.

‘I would like to meet this Lee.’ Her mother suggested.

‘No problems, I’ll bring him round for tea tomorrow if that’s ok.’

    ‘No problems love.’

Michelle was finally happy. All she needed to do now was for her mother to accept Lee for who is.

At tea the following day Michelle and her mother were surprised how
