Love Conquers All
Chapter 1
The Test
She stared at the little plastic stick in her hand, feeling a surge of emotions. She had been trying to get pregnant for over a year, and now it was finally happening. She was going to be a mother.
She couldn’t wait to tell her husband, who was away on a business trip. She picked up her phone and typed a message: Honey, I have some amazing news, call me as soon as you can. Love you.
She hit send and smiled, imagining his reaction. He had always wanted to have a child with her, and she knew he would be overjoyed.
She put the phone down and looked at the stick again. It had two pink lines, indicating a positive result. She felt a warm glow in her chest and a slight flutter in her stomach. She wondered if it was the baby moving.
She got up from the bathroom floor and walked to the mirror. She unbuttoned her top to see her tummy. It was still flat, but she knew it would soon start to grow. She rubbed it gently and whispered, Hello, little one, I’m your mommy.
A tear began to fall from her cheek. She was happy but also scared. She had never been a mother before. She didn’t know if she was ready for this responsibility. She had so many questions and doubts.
How would she balance her career and motherhood? How would she cope with the physical and emotional changes? How would she deal with the pain of childbirth? How would she raise a healthy and happy child?
She wished her mother was still alive. She died of cancer when she was only twelve years old. She had been her best friend and mentor, and she missed her every day. She wished she could talk to her now, and ask for her advice.
She sighed and wiped her eyes. She knew she had to be strong. She had her husband, who loved her and supported her. She had her friends, who were like family to her. She had herself, who was smart and capable.
She made the decision to emphasize the benefits of parenthood. She thought about the joy of holding her baby for the first time, of seeing his or her face, and of hearing his or her voice. She thought about the bond they would share, the love they would feel, and the memories they would make.
She smiled again and felt a surge of excitement. She was going to be a mother and she was going to be a great one.
She waited for his call all day, but it never came. She checked her phone every few minutes, hoping to see his name on the screen. She wondered if he had seen her message, or if he was too busy to reply.
She tried to distract herself from work, but she couldn’t concentrate. She was a lawyer at a prestigious firm, and she had a big case coming up. She needed to prepare her arguments and evidence, but all she could think about was her baby.
She decided to call him herself, but he didn’t answer. She left a voicemail, saying that she had something important to tell him and that she loved him. She hoped he would call her back soon.
She finished her work and left the office. She drove home and parked in the driveway. She noticed that his car was already there. She felt a surge of happiness. He was home!
She grabbed her purse and ran to the door. She opened it and saw him sitting on the couch, watching TV. He looked up and smiled when he saw her.
Hey, babe,
he said. You’re home early.
She dropped her purse and ran to him. She embraced him and gave him a passionate kiss.
I missed you so much,
she said.
I missed you too,
he said.
He hugged her back and kissed her hair. He noticed that she was trembling.
Are you okay?
he asked.
She pulled away and looked into his eyes. She saw love and concern in them.
She said, "I got something to tell you.
He nodded and gestured for her to sit next to him. He turned off the TV and held her hand.
What is it?
he asked.
She took a deep breath and smiled.
I’m pregnant,
she said.
He stared at her in shock. His mouth opened and closed, but no sound came out.
She waited for his reaction, hoping that he would be happy.
He blinked and shook his head.
What?
he asked.
I’m pregnant,
she repeated.
He looked at her belly and then at her face. He searched for any sign of a joke or a lie, but he found none.
He felt a wave of emotions wash over him. He felt disbelief, confusion, fear, anger, and finally joy.
He embraced her and helped her get up from the couch. He spun her around and laughed.
You’re pregnant!
he exclaimed.
Yes!
she said.
We’re going to have a baby!
he said.
Yes!
she said.
He put her down and kissed her again. He touched her belly and smiled.
Hello, little one,
he said. I’m your daddy.
She laughed and cried at the same time. She hugged him and kissed his cheek.
I love you,
she said.
I love you too,
he said.
They sat down on the couch again and cuddled. They talked about their baby, their plans, and their dreams. They were happy.
Chapter 2
The Complication
She looked radiant and was in the second trimester. She loved being pregnant. She loved feeling her baby kick and move inside her. She loved watching her belly grow and change. She loved shopping for baby clothes and toys. She loved planning the nursery and the baby shower. She loved everything about it.
She was also doing well at work. She had won her big case and received a promotion. Her clients and coworkers both appreciated and admired her. She was proud of her achievements and confident in her abilities.
She had a perfect life. She had a loving husband, a beautiful home, a successful career, and a precious baby on the way. She was happy.
But then, everything changed. It was a normal day. She woke up and kissed her husband goodbye. He had to leave early for a meeting. She got ready and drove to work. She had a busy schedule, but she was used to it.
She arrived at the office and greeted her assistant. She checked her email and saw
