Lon Maisttison

Lon Maisttison is a retired Southern Indiana boy who enjoyed a 43-year career in Electronics Engineering with 20 years spent in England working on Government contracts. It was during his last assignment in England (1993 to 2003),that the idea for Air Rescue Stories was conceived from day-dreams formulated in the imaginative mind of author Lon Maisttison. The author visualized these day-dream stories based against real life events happening throughout the world and injecting his own 20th century Ninja action hero. A Ninja that was not based on Western Movie type of fighters, but the original fifteenth century Japanese stealth warrior, who specialized in covert assassinations for a paid fee for services. These fifteenth century Ninja’s utilized stealth; the art of being undetected, invisible to their target, which became the basis for the Air Rescue Stories. This theme created the action hero Jimmy West – The Stealth Warrior. An action hero who is paid a million dollars a mission to infiltrate a location, knocks off all the guards with a blowgun and tranquilizer darts, secure the kidnapped person and leave silently.During the late 1990‘s, the author started compiling stores on his home computer into a written outline format about the visualized day-dream stories of that day. For years the day-dreamed stories remained dormant on his home computer until 2003 when the author came back to the United States and contracted a virus that attacked his heart that developed into congestive heart failure (CHF). During that year of recovery from a heart function of 10%, the author started researching the Mediterranean Diet to survive CHF. This research work lead to the book titled: “The Kissed of Death – Congestive Heart Failure.” So, the author made himself a promise to continue writing about CHF and in addition, started a new hobby, writing books about Air Rescue. This lead to the first book titled: “The Two Sisters of Kuwait,” written from stories developed in England.Since 2003, new day-dreamed stories began about Air Rescue with the creation of Global Rescuer, a helicopter support ship, which used hologram displays to disguise its identity i.e. stealth. In addition, four robot based fast attack gunships was created, which use voice commands, supercomputers to fly the gunship. Later, Skyspy and Gunrunner was created, both are robot aircraft. The ship/gunship creation opened an endless avenue of new stories based on Strike Force Rescues i.e. attack gunships and rescue helicopters. For the past seventeen years, these simple ideas and dreams have created fourteen books composed of one short story, six novelettes, three novellas, four novels and four novel versions of “Kissed by Death.”

The Two Sisters of Kuwait - Lon Maisttison

    Introduction: The Air Rescue Story

It all began in the 1980’s, when Air Rescue started-up a helicopter rescue business. The company’s main line of business was transporting medical patients from hospitals, picking up people at car accident sites, taking people off ships at sea and basically specialized in air pickups of all kinds. Accident rescues was Air Rescue’s most profitable business for years, their bread and butter so to speak and they were very good at this line of work. Business was good.

In 1982, the business took a downturn due to the Miami riots that year. During that summer, and appreciating those times of American history, some overbearing cops in Miami beat to death a black motorcyclist which started the Miami Riots. Air Rescue was, of course, doing rescue work during the rioting period. The official story told by the sister aircrew flying that afternoon with the downed helicopter, indicated that the helicopter came under fire from the rioters and was hit in the tail rotor, always the most vulnerable spot for a helicopter and the chopper crashed. Everybody on-board, including the patient, they picked up was killed. That was a very bad day for Air Rescue. So, some of the rescue aircrew members with military backgrounds started carrying weapons and, on several occasions, they shot at rioters and snipers who were shooting at them.

In 1985, Air Rescue decided to officially start-up the combat rescue business and started hiring commandos out of various militaries. The commando unit of Air Rescue began from an idea of one of the aircrew personnel, who had a background in Special Forces. He took upon himself to do a little freelance work and went on a mission to rescue a businessman kidnapped in a South American country. He successfully rescued the businessman being held by drug lords and received a nice reward payment from the man’s company for a good job. He returned back to work at Air Rescue and of course Air Rescue wanted to hear all about his rescue story because Air Rescue liked the idea behind the rescue operation. So, he started up the commando unit of Air Rescue with one person and business grew and grew.

Once, the U.S. Government got wind of the military operations in the United States, the U.S. Government forced Air Rescue into U.S. Federal Court and through court action forced Air Rescue to either leave the United States or cease operations under a federal mandate of the Private Militias Laws brought on by all the problems with the Cuban National Front in Florida in the 1960’s. So, Air Rescue made a deal with the U.S. Government that the military wing of the business would move out of the United States, leaving only the medical rescue business.

That year, Air Rescue Special Forces moved their entire business office for Special Forces Operations to Harrogate, England, under the direction of Frank James, Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret.), Royal Marine Commandos (1984) as British laws are more relaxed about para-military organizations. Once the Harrogate Office was established, Frank established the supply office in Northampton which had operational control of assets being kept offshore in various friendly countries.

By the late 1980’s, Air Rescue was a well-established and successful paramilitary-for-hire business. Commandos were used extensively in special rescue operations, especially during the Beirut Civil War to save kidnapped victims for large sums of money. One of the heroes of that period of time was Jimmy West who was so successful in sneaking into and out of Beirut that his paid fee increased to one million dollars per mission. Jimmy was known by several intelligence agencies and especially Egyptian intelligence for his work.

This action-adventure story, the first book of Air Rescue Stories, is about the exploits of commando, Jimmy West, and the report he filed titled: The Two Sisters of Kuwait.

1 Air Rescue HQ – Harrogate

Frank James opened the red door at Lavender House, Studley Road, Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England, and walks out the door followed by his wife Margaret.

Goodbye Margaret, as Frank leans over and gives her a kiss.

Bye Frank, replied Margaret as she stepped back out of the doorway and closed the door.

Frank walked down the two large stone steps and through the Black Iron Gate in front of his 125-year-old Victorian house and heads into town to Air Rescue HQ.

    Good morning Mary.

    How are you, Frank?

    ‘Mary!"

    Yes, she replied.

Please give Jimmy a call in Mallorca.

    Ok Frank.

    A few minutes later.

Frank! Jimmy is on line #1.

    Thank you, Mary.

    Frank picks up the phone.

Jimmy my man, how in the hell are you?

    Doing just fine Frank.

    How’s the weather in Harrogate?

It sucks Jimmy, it really sucks.

    Frank and Jimmy both laughs.

    Frankly, it’s sunny here.

Thanks for rubbing it in Jimmy.

As Jimmy talked to Frank on the wireless phone, he walked out through the dark wood, stained glass window framed French doors in the living room, onto the stone balcony overlooking the beautiful greenish/blue water of Port de Soller dotted with villas in the mountain background. Jimmy sat down on a blue striped director’s chair at the yellowish pine finished table, which was pushed up against the patio balustrade, a yellowish colored sandstone vase shaped column & pillar design that was supporting the hand railing.

Frank, you would not believe how beautiful it is here. The sun is shining; the air is warm and fresh.

The view of the bay of Port de Soller is breathtaking with the mountains in the background.

Thanks, Jimmy, for rubbing it in again.

    Jimmy is laughing.

    Frank how is Margaret?

    She is fine Jimmy.

Margaret and Frank have been married for 23 years. Margaret is a Harrogate girl who originally lived in Woodfield Road, only 5 minutes from her current home in Studley Road.

So, Frank, what can I do for you?

The reason why I am calling Jimmy, we have received payment from one of our key clients now that the war has ended, and I was wondering if you’re interested in getting your money?

Yes, Frank, I am always interested in getting money?

I thought I would hand deliver something for you since Margaret has never been down to Mallorca.

It would be a good opportunity for us to mix a little business with pleasure for a few days and get some sun.

Maybe we can have lunch together some place?

Sounds good to me, replies Jimmy.

Margaret will love it here Frank.

Jimmy, how’s your schedule look for next weekend.

Let’s see Frank as Jimmy looks at his calendar, next weekend that’s April 6 / 7?

    That’s right Jimmy.

I am not doing anything that weekend Frank.

I don’t have any ladies scheduled for a sleepover that weekend.

Good, replies Frank as they both laugh at Jimmy’s comment.

Air Rescue has a contract with various airlines and Monarch just happens to have a flight available to Mallorca in a package holiday deal that they are offering to me, replies Frank.

Ok Jimmy let me get back to the airlines and I will call you back in a little bit.

Also, Jimmy, where is a good hotel in Mallorca for Margaret and me to stay at which is convenient for you?

Now Jimmy, don’t forget Margaret likes a warm white sandy beach.

The Hotel Barceló Flamingo is on Mission de San Diego, replies Jimmy.

It’s a 4-star hotel located right on the white sandy beach in the bay of Palma de Majorca.

Perfect! Margaret can get some beach time.

What kind of restaurants do they have?

The restaurant is buffet style with a wide selection of international and traditional med-foods.

Let me think, there are two pools: one small pool inside and one outside pool and you can get food and drinks outside on the pool deck.

Margaret will love it, replies Frank.

Frank! The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport.

    Ok Jimmy!

As Frank looks over his notes, I think I have enough information for now I‘ll call you back in about a half an hour.

    Ok, bye Frank.

    Bye Jimmy.

    Frank hangs up the phone.

    Mary!

    Yes, Frank!

Please do me a favor, and call Monarch Airlines at Leeds Bradford Airport and book a flight to Mallorca for Margaret and myself.

The itinerary dates are: On April 5, we depart England on flight ZB535 at 2:45 pm and arrive in Mallorca at 6:20pm. We return on April 8, on flight ZB 535 which leaves Mallorca at 7:05 pm and arrives back in England 8:40pm.

    Ok Frank.

    Also, Mary!

    Yes!

Please arrange a booking at Hotel Barceló’ Flamingo on Mission de San Diego for three nights and when you get this all arranged, let me know so I can call Jimmy back.

Ok Frank, I’ll start working on it.

    About 20 minutes later.

Frank everything is booked, do you want me to call Jimmy.

    Yes, Please.

    Mary calls Jimmy

Frank! Jimmy is on line #1.

    Thanks Mary.

Jimmy, no problem, we have booked flights on Monarch, and we are staying at the Hotel Barceló Flamingo."

Frank, you will like the Flamingo Hotel, it’s a nice place.

Jimmy, how do I get to the Flamingo Hotel?

When you come out of the airport, take Autopista Le Levant (East) to Jct# 11; take Meravelles (South) thru the roundabout to Del Llaut (East) to Mission De San Diego, the hotel is on the right.

You will have to park on Del Llaut Street as parking is at a premium in the area.

Ok Jimmy, as Frank is frantically writing down notes as Jimmy speaks.

I am glad you managed to stay at the Flamingo Frank because we can have lunch at the local café - Cafeteria San Diego on the corner from the Flamingo Hotel.

It’s owned by Carlos, an old, longtime friend of mine from when I lived nearby in Magaluf.

Ok Frank, you’re coming in on Friday, April 5?

    That’s right, Jimmy.

How’s about we have lunch on Saturday April 6 at 1:00 pm at the cafeteria San Diego.

    We won’t need a reservation.

    Ok with me Jimmy.

Frank will Margaret be having lunch with us?

    No!

She will most likely want to go shopping in Palma.

Can Margaret catch a bus around the area where we will be?

Frank, there are buses up and down the promenade about every 15 minutes or so, all going to Palma.

She can catch it right in front of the Cafeteria.

    Great, replies Frank.

How’s the weather in Mallorca in April?

    High 60’s, replies Jimmy.

What type of clothes should Margaret and I bring?

Frank, during this time of the year, lightweight clothes during the day like short sleeve shirts will do just fine, but you will need a light coat at night.

    What about the beach?

The water will be cold, but Margaret can lie on the beach if it’s a really sunny day.

There will always be some people swimming who can stand cold Mediterranean water this time of the year.

    Ok Jimmy.

What kind of rental car should I get, asks Frank?

Rent a Peugeot 206 from Euro Car at the Mallorca Airport, replied Jimmy, because they will give you a good rate.

The rental office is downstairs around the corner from where you pick up your luggage.

After you pick up your luggage, walk over towards the double doors leading to the bus parking area and Euro Car is on the right.

To pick up your car, just go out through the double doors, cross the bus parking lot to the auto parking garage and Euro Car is on the left side of the garage.

Frank is frantically writing down notes again as Jimmy gives him the information.

I’ll get Mary to book it for me, replied Frank.

Ok Jimmy, I think I have everything, see you next weekend.

    Ok Frank!

    Goodbye.

    Frank hangs up from Jimmy.

    Mary!

    Yes, Frank.

Can you call Euro Car for me and book a Peugeot 206 for pickup at the Palma Airport for pickup on Friday, April 5, and return on the eightth.

Right, Frank, I will set it up.

Frank calls his wife Margaret to tell her they will be going to Mallorca over the weekend and to start packing.

Ring…Ring goes the phone in the kitchen next to the breakfast counter at Studley Road.

Margaret, I have some good news for you.

    Yes, Frank, replies Margaret.

How would you like to get some sun next weekend, asks Frank?

    Yes! replied Margaret excitedly.

Ok love, go to Boot’s this afternoon and get some suntan lotion because we are going to Mallorca next weekend to see Jimmy.

Where are we staying, asks Margaret?

Jimmy recommended the 4-star Barceló’ Flamingo Hotel situated right on the beautiful white sandy beach of the bay of Palma de Majorca.

Each one of the suites has a terrace overlooking the Mediterranean.

The hotel restaurant has a buffet with a wide selection of international and traditional Mediterranean foods, explains Frank.

    Very nice, replied Margaret.

    What about pools?

The hotel has two pools; one indoor and one outdoor.

How close are we going to be to Palma, asks Margaret?

    Very close.

Jimmy says you can take the beach front bus into Palma on Saturday for some shopping while I meet with Jimmy.

What type of clothes do I need to take, replies Margaret?

Jimmy told me, you will need a light jacket at night, but during the day, short sleeves will do when the sun is out as the temperature will be around high 60’s.

I‘ll take the high 60’s and sun, replies Margaret.

That Friday afternoon, Margaret and Frank flew down to Palma, Mallorca for Franks meeting with Jimmy on Saturday afternoon.

    2 The Meeting

It’s Saturday morning and Frank and Margaret awake to sunlight streaming into their hotel room overlooking the Mediterranean coast of Playa de Mallorca and spent the morning lounging around the outdoor heated pool, after breakfast enjoying the sun.

At 1:00PM, Frank and Margaret leave the room and walk down the marble stairs to the lobby and out again through the double glass doors and wait on the steps for Jimmy to arrive.

A few minutes pass and Frank and Margaret hear in the distance the sound of a motorbike coming down the street from the direction of Meravelles Street. The sound gets louder and louder as the distinct roaring sound of a motorbike gets closer and closer.

    Vroom!

    Vroom!

Vroom goes the motorbike, as it rounds the corner of Mission de San Diego. The roaring sound continues getting louder and louder and from around the corner of the hotel comes a lone rider on a greenish/ blue Yamaha motorbike. The rider is wearing a white and black checkered helmet, and a white and purple striped bike riding suit as the bike pulls up in front of the hotel.

It’s Jimmy, yells Frank as he looks over to Margaret.

Jimmy parks the bike and gets off and removes his helmet as Frank and Margaret walk up to him. Jimmy un-zips his bike jacket and takes it off, revealing a black short sleeve shirt.

    Hi Jimmy, replies Frank.

Hi Frank, good to see you again as they shake hands.

Hi Margaret as Jimmy leans over and gives her a kiss on the cheek.

Welcome to Mallorca, how do you like it so far?

    Very nice Jimmy, replies Margaret.

    I could live here.

    Nice bike Jimmy, says Frank.

What kind of Yamaha is it?

    It’s a 1990 Yamaha FZR 1000, replies
