A Model Railway Man

The replica was perfect. No detail had been overlooked on the 1/64th scale model of a 1966 Ford Mustang. Even a driver and gear shifter had been added inside.

John Wilson added the final touch of paint to the racing stripe with a steady and practiced hand. Ever so carefully he placed the car on the exact spot that he wanted on his model train set. With a sigh of satisfaction he straightened up and surveyed his surroundings with pride.

Almost the entire basement was now taken over by his train set. A mere means of distraction that had began when his parents were going through a divorce when he as twelve had become a lifelong hobby. Years of patient work resulted in the creation of an immaculately detailed little world.

John flipped the eight switches necessary to turn on all of the trains. As he watched them loop around their prescribed circuits he felt for a brief moment a sense of completion. Like all the events in the world would turn out alright from this moment forward.

Then he saw it.

A hole in his set-up.
