Lynda Charow

Author, Lynda Charow, like her main character Victoria is a firm believer that anything that you put your mind to you can achieve. She worked her way through college to receive a B.S. degree in Broadcasting from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. A month after graduating she gave birth to her daughter, Victoria Lyn. As an independent producer, in the mid-1990's, she co-produced a number of historical documentaries with the WDIV-TV 4, the Detroit NBC affiliate. The research became a springboard for the "Legends of the Lakes" book. Her Emmy award winning documentary "Haunted Legends of Old Detroit" provided some of the inspiration for the legends incorporated in that book. "The Snow Day" was inspired by photos that Victoria's Dad had shared from his days in college up at Michigan Technoligical University in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The "Venetian Festival" was based on some of the experiences that the family had by participating in the cardboard boat races in the annual festival sponsored by the Nautical Mile Merchant Association. "Daylight at Night" was inspired when the fireworks in the city were actually cancelled due to the lack of funds. Lynda has recently completed a documentary "Building on Faith: The Historic Churches of Detroit". DVD Copies of the program are available for purchase for $20.Lynda is also the event director for the Shores-Pointes Adventure Triathlon. She is a triathlete herself and decided to bring this kind of event to her city, St. Clair Shores. The second annual event was held on July 21, 2012 at Blossom Heath Park. The event web site is www.shorespointestri.com. She also maintains a Facebook page where photos of the events have been posted and additional event information is constantly updated.

Chapter One – The Adventure Begins

The snow had been heavily falling all night long. The people of the city slept peacefully in their beds as the snow covered the neighborhoods and the highways that they would normally be traveling on to get to work and to school. But, this morning they were in for a big surprise. Ten inches of fluffy white flakes had already fallen and there wasn’t any sign of it stopping.

Inside the little white house on the canal near Lake St. Clair, twelve-year old, Tori, her friend Mary and her family lay asleep. Mary’s parents had gone on a trip to Florida so she was staying with Tori and her parents for the week.

It was almost 6 o’clock in the morning and Tori’s alarm broke the silence with a blasting of the radio. She jumped as the music shattered her rest. The normally spunky and full of life beach bum was not a morning person. Mary, one of Tori’s best friends, rolled over and covered her head with the blanket.

Hey, dude. It’s time to get up. Tori said as she pulled the blanket corner off of Mary’s head.

You get ready first. She moaned as she pulled the blanket back over her head.

Tori sleepily shuffled down the hall to get herself ready for school. She walked right past the hallway window without noticing the 2-foot drifts hanging off the neighbor’s roof.

After a steaming hot shower she went back to her bedroom window to do her morning ritual. She groaned as she quickly pulled up the blinds and said, Look out world, I’m up. Crystal; her white American Eskimo dog, jumped up from her dog bed to join Tori by the window. They both stood in shock for a moment as they looked out onto the driveway where the car was buried beneath a mountain of drifted and
