Norma Clark Larsen

Norma Clark Larsen was born in Brigham City, Utah. She was the tenth child of Jonah and Estella Frisbey Clark. After the death of her father when she was three, the family moved to Salt Lake City where she received her schooling. She married Rudy Larsen and they are the parents of nine children. She was widowed in 1964.Sister Larsen attended the University of Utah, where she earned a degree in Sociology with minors in Speech and English. She has published poetry in the Children’s Friend and The Instructor.She is best known in the West for her community service work and for her role as the 1980 Utah Mother of the Year. She served as chairman of cancer drives, polio clinics and as a member of the Community Services Council. She filled a two-year term as president of the Utah Mothers Association.Her Church service includes extensive teaching activity, callings in ward Relief Society and Primary presidencies, participation as a stake, regional, and multi-regional chairman of the Special Interest group, and she served a mission for her church.Her collecting of spiritual experiences has provided a valuable service, for the accounts serve as a renewed witness that there truly is a benevolent Father in Heaven that loves and protects His children who have come to experience the trial of mortality.Sister Larsen passed away in 1999 and the reprint of His Everlasting Love volumes I and II, and the original printing of His Everlasting Love volume III is being done by her children because of her desire to open our eyes to the Father’s love and help; and to help us believe in miracles.

CHAPTER ONE

GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS THROUGH REVEALED WORDS

It is beautiful to contemplate the great love of our Heavenly Father and his Son, our savior, Jesus Christ, for His children. When we study the scriptures and learn of our future destiny as planned by them, with the marvelous cooperation of the Holy Ghost, we can never be thankful or grateful enough. It is greatly encouraging to begin each day with prayer, knowing that the Father hears us and cares so lovingly for us. It stimulates our desire to love and serve Him in return.

Heavenly Father is performing miracles for His children every day. A miracle, by definition, ‘exceeds the know powers of nature and is due to the intervention of deity’. Every answer to prayer, therefore, is a miracle, because Heavenly Father is responsible for these answers and help. He has many spirit beings who aid in this work, such as angels, spirits, the Three Nephites and others. I truly believe that the Father is willing to give help far beyond that which is usually requested.

In Matthew 7:7, we are told, Ask, and it shall be given you, seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. To show our good faith, obedience to the commandments and service to others should concurrently be practiced by us. The Lord wants us to come deeper into the spirit and ask for, listen for, live for and use this further help that is available. Heavenly Father has made known to me why He gives miraculous help to His children. It is to: 1. Help them, 2. Strengthen their faith and trust in Him, and, 3. Make them aware that He is available to help them.

Since 1964, I have been greatly blessed by the Lord, because it was then that I began to receive specific answers to my prayers, in words and sentences. I concluded that this special help was being given to me because of the added burdens I then bore. I had been widowed and left alone to raise our eight children who were still at home. I was very grateful and soon learned how to receive very clear and definite answers. I learned to hold my own thoughts back and listen intently. I was anxious to do the Father’s will.

In 1965, another marvelous blessing was given to me. My husband, Rudy Larsen, came to me and said that he had been given permission to talk to me each year on our wedding anniversary, November 13th. I had difficulty accepting his visits, but the third year, I began showing some faith and accepting this visit as a reality. Then the Holy Ghost testified to me and I knew that it was true. (see ‘A Visit Each Year on Their Anniversary’).

I have received much guidance in making decisions, received protection from accidents, received encouragement and comfort, healing when ill, direct answers where needed, and other blessings. At one time, I was literally walking the floor in pain and in great distress over the hatred, cruelty, starvation and other misery I witnessed in the world. I pleaded with the Father, Isn’t there something more I can do to help put a stop to the evil in this world? A loving voice spoke into my mind, Don’t forget that I am still in charge of this world. Suddenly, I was crying and laughing in relief as I said, Of course you are. Of course you are. I understood and knew that free agency was paramount and the Father was striving hourly to reach each of us and helping us to be our better selves; Satan and his cohorts were also appealing to man’s self-interest and greed. The Father’s plan would succeed however.

The Lord guided me in 1976 to write a book that was a collection of many persons’ spiritual experiences which included a number of my own stories of the Father’s help. In 1977, After the book was published, a lady friend came to me and asked, How come you can talk with your husband and I can’t talk with mine? I told her, I don’t know why. I don’t even know why I can talk with my husband. One of my daughters suggested that I ask the Lord for the answer.

Early in 1978 I knelt and asked, Why do I get answers in words and sentences? I was told that it was because I had such a great desire to help people and that I also had the faith to listen to and hear the answers. Later, my husband told me that he had asked to talk with me, to help our family. Here also, I had to have the faith to accept it. I was mighty grateful. I have been reluctant to repeat these answers but the Father has encouraged me to do so, saying, People would like to know. Several friends encouraged me to share the stories, saying they might be helpful in encouraging others to seek like help.

Our prophet, Spencer W. Kimball has said, Faith precedes the miracle. To me, faith in this context, means a belief that miracles are possible. Every answer to prayer is a miracle. In this chapter and others following, many examples of people receiving outstanding help from our Heavenly Father are given. First are stories from people who received answers to prayers in words and sentences.

Daily Directions From the Lord Helps in Weight Loss

During the summer of 1974, Jean Maughan, a young mother of three children began to have a very frightening dream. At that time, she and her husband, Dan, had moved to Hawaii from their Utah home. The recurring dream, which disturbed her highly, depicted her husband being killed in an airplane accident. It seemed so very real to her that she begged her husband, who worked for the airlines, to stop accepting optional repair jobs which required that he fly to other areas. She was so afraid that the terrible accident which she saw in her dreams, might become a reality.

Shortly thereafter, one evening in Sacrament Meeting, she was given a strong prompting and she knew that Dan was going to die. She hurried home and knelt to ask her Father in Heaven if the airplane accident which she was in her dreams had to become a reality. She received a very strong answer from the Lord. The words came directly into her mind, Are you willing to give up something to get an answer? Oh, yes, she cried in anguish. Then stop reading!

This may seem like a very strange answer, but Sister Maughn knew exactly to what the voice referred. Although she had been somewhat overweight at the time of her marriage, the following years found her struggling to keep her weight down many times. She became discouraged in the diet-fight, especially because she would add so many extra pounds during her pregnancies. The pounds had continued to add on. Now, in 1974, she had reached 335 pounds and had for some time literally given up the struggle.

She had little energy and found it difficult to get through the minimum of housework. Although she was giving her children proper care, she found herself using her voice instead of her feet to follow through on their supervision. Her discouragement took the form of a retreat into a fantasy world where she would read paperback novels and snack on tuna fish sandwiches. She knew quite well to what the Lord was referring.

She told the Lord that she would do as he wished and discontinued reading the romance novels. Six months later, the dreams began again. She was frightened and also fearful that she was doing something else to displease the Lord. Almost resentfully she wondered what would she be asked to give up next, perhaps television viewing? Nevertheless, she was so concerned that she again went to her Father in prayer. This time she was told, Your husband, because of your overweight, will be constantly tempted, almost beyond his capacity to endure or withstand. I will take him rather than let him be lost.

Now, the most wonderful thing possible happened. The very next night, after she fasted and prayed for help, that beautiful, helping voice of the Lord began to give her direct and specific dieting instructions. In the days to follow, she strengthened her resolve to follow all help and guidance and to seek outside support also. She took her problem to her most spiritual and helpful cousin who gave her a great deal of moral support and encouragement all the way in her struggle to lose weight. She was well aware that it would be no easy task as she had been through it many times before. This time, however, she had her wonderful Father in Heaven to help her. Not only did He give her the properly tailored diet for her, but daily and hourly guidance came with do’s and don’ts. She always knew
