Ethan Mallory used to be her world even when their worlds didn't mesh well together. He was poor so her rich father didn't want him for his only daughter. They were so in love with each other though and so happy with each other until he suddenly left her and their small town without a word, breaking her heart to a million pieces.

Years later -- and just days before her wedding -- she meets him again. This time, Ethan is a self-made man and not the poor man she used to know.

And he was obviously still in love with her.

Dare she let him back into her life, risk the wrath of her father and break Barry's heart? Will she let the man who'd hurt her more than anyone else in the world hurt her again?

Is it really a choice, when she never really loved anyone like she loved Ethan?

Sandra Ross

The moment Sandra Ross held her first romance novel when she was ten, she knew she was going to write romance. At thirty now, a prolific reader and a freelance writer, she's since then expanded her preferences from just romance to romance with a dash of now trending sub-genres—paranormal , fantasy, sci-fi even, and erotica. She loves challenging herself and would write on a dare. On a normal day, she would be found in her herb garden collecting spices for her kitchen or ingredients for her potions; in her huge eclectic Provencal kitchen with the big modern oven cooking pots and pans of food for her family of one husband and three kids (an ardent daughter and two boisterous sons) that'll probably last for weeks; in her library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and an e-reader in her hands as she reads the latest erotic hit; or scribbling pages upon pages of different erotic lifestyles, searching for the one that feels like it was inspired by just the right mix of passion, story line, and sex. Aside from these activities, the rest of the time she'd be found in front of her laptop typing the latest Sandra Ross concoction for her readers.

    Amorous Pursuits - Sandra Ross

    Chapter One

CHRISTA STOOD at the window of her enormous childhood bedroom, watching the activity below. People were scurrying all over the perfectly manicured lawn setting up chairs, tents, tables, arches, and flowers. This was meant to be the happiest day of her life-her wedding day.

Her gown was hanging on her closet door, still encased in its plastic bag to protect it until it was time for her to put it on. She should have been feeling excited and thrilled to be marrying one of the most eligible bachelors in the city. Barry Candler was handsome, attentive, successful, and very rich. He even had more money than her family. She was very lucky that he had fallen in love with her and now wanted to marry her. She knew this in her head. So what's wrong with me? Christa wondered, not for the first time. Barry will make a wonderful husband and I'll have everything I could ever want once I'm Mrs. Barry Candler. Deep down, though, Christa knew exactly what was wrong with her. She leaned her head back against the window and closed her eyes. In her mind, she went back to a little over two weeks ago...

CHRISTA HAD been standing outside of the bookstore, waiting for Barry. They had planned to meet here before going to pick up their wedding rings that had been custom-made for them by one of the most sought-after jewelers in the world. It seems that Barry had done a favor for him in the past and the man wanted so badly to repay him. Yes, that's the kind of circle that Barry traveled in. She was still amazed at all the celebrities and other well-known people that she had met since she and Barry had become engaged. At any rate, she was waiting for Barry and happened to see a sign in the book shop window, advertising a book signing that evening. Looking closer, she saw that the display of books bore the photo of Ethan Mallory. For a moment, Christa almost forgot to breathe. How could this be? she wondered. Ethan was going to be here in a couple hours and he had apparently written and published a book! Oh, why couldn't she breathe? Barry would be here within minutes, so she had to calm down! How could just a picture of Ethan bring back all of those long ago memories? Christa, are you ok, sweetheart? Barry's concerned voice sounded right at her ear. Christa whirled to face him. Oh! Yes, Barry, I'm fine! I was just doing a little wool gathering, I think they call it. Christa tried for a laugh that wasn't completely successful, but Barry bought it anyway. I bet you're excited about picking up our rings, he said, teasing her. Yes, yes, that's got to be it, she agreed. She managed to return the quick kiss he gave her before they started off for the jewelers. The entire time they were oohing and aahhing over the rings, Christa was trying to figure out how she could get away from Barry for the length of time it would take her to be back at the book shop for Ethan's book signing. She knew that Barry would expect to be taking her to dinner following the jewelers' visit and that would take too long. She hated lying to anyone but there was nothing else to be done. Obviously, she couldn't drag Barry along with her to the book signing.

    Chapter Two

BARRY, I TRULY do love the rings. They're amazing and I know you wanted us to go out to dinner tonight to celebrate but I think this heat is getting to me lately. Would you be too terribly disappointed if we put off our celebration dinner until tomorrow evening? Instantly, Barry was showing concern for his fiancee. Tucking his arm around her, he looked at her in a rather exploratory fashion, as if he were trying to spot the cause of her malady. Of course not, darling! he said. If you're not feeling well, you should definitely go home and get some rest! It's probably all the excitement and stress with the wedding. Thanks, Barry, she said in relief.Just remember that, once we're married, you'll have a full month in Europe to rest and do whatever you want while we're on our honeymoon. Yes, you're totally right. You go on to the restaurant and I'll just catch a cab back to my apartment. There's no need to ruin your evening. Barry protested, just as she had known he would, but Christa insisted that she would feel even worse if his evening was ruined because of her. Eventually, she was able to convince him to let her go home on her own and promised to call him later to let him know how she was doing. Of course, now she really had to get into a cab and continue the charade. However, once she was in the cab and out of Barry's sight, she switched addresses on the driver and had him take her back to the book shop. As it turned out, she was almost lost in the crowd of people that was queuing up with their copies of Ethan's book to be signed by the author himself. She was fine with that because she certainly didn't want to stand out in the crowd. Instead, Christa used the time in line to thumb through the book. It was a mystery with a dash of romance thrown in. She tried to kill time by scanning the book but, before she knew it, she had read the first chapter and was fully immersed in the story. When she glanced up, she saw that she was second in line to have her book signed. The woman in front of her chatted briefly with Ethan as he signed her book and then she moved on. Suddenly, Ethan was sitting there in front of her, larger than life, the welcoming smile fading from his face and turning into something resembling shock. Hello, Ethan, Christa said in a low voice because she had suddenly gotten so nervous. Of course he would recognize her. He should. They were happy-or she thought they were-when he suddenly left town with his mother without even a goodbye to his girlfriend, which was Christa.Oh, my God! Christa! he said, as he fought to regain control. It's so wonderful to see you! I didn't realize that you had moved to the city!Yes, I moved here a couple of years ago, she said. I have an apartment a few blocks from here. Well, this is just amazing! Do you have a few minutes? I'll be finishing up here in about 20 more minutes and I'd love to catch up!Although she doubted that because the line was actually still very long, she nodded. Sure, I can do that. In fact, I'm pretty involved in your book already! Christa laughed, a little in disbelief that she had actually met him again under this bizarre circumstance. She might still feel confused and a little hurt about the past but she was still happy at his fortune. I'll just wait in the reading area until you're done. And that's exactly what she did.

    Chapter Three

NOW, THOUGH, she wasn't reading his book. She was thinking about how she had been imagining this moment for years. Even though she had played it out so many times in her head, none of the scenarios came close to matching what she was feeling right now. Christa, thanks so much for waiting! Ethan was suddenly at her side. Would you like to get some coffee or something? She thought for a moment. She wanted to talk to him but in a place where they could both be comfortable. I know that there's a great little coffee shop just across the street. We can go there, if you like. He beamed. It sounds perfect! Ethan took her hand and helped her up from the chair. She felt awkward for a moment and a little surprised at the feeling of her hand in his. Oh how, after all the years, it still felt so familiar, it seemed like it was just yesterday. She saw him pause, as if he felt the same way, too. As if he just acted naturally when he took her hand, then realized a second too late they weren't together anymore. But the moment passed with both of them acting as if nothing like that happened as they headed out to the coffee shop that she talked about. In all that time, he never let go of her hand and she was having trouble controlling the various chills that were running through her body. In the coffee shop, they got an intimate booth in the back of the shop and ordered two lattes. The time they spent together at first was focused on getting caught up with what each had been doing in the years that they had been apart. Obviously, Ethan had been pursuing a writing career and was very successful at it. Christa didn't feel that she had been doing anything quite as exciting in her graphics career. She was also still painting but the graphics business paid her bills for the most part.
