Chapter One

Wick poured coffee over the sugar and cream in the bottom of his cup. He stirred all the goodness together before sipping to test. Satisfied, he headed to his desk to check his emails before the sun rose.

Coffee's ready. He hollered across the open space. Wick lived in one huge room above an abandoned warehouse. When he bought the building he loved the idea of utilizing the large space; he quartered it off into a kitchen, office, family room and bedroom—the bedroom section had a tile L-shaped wall in the corner that didn't quite reach the ceiling. This was the only wall in his house and blocked off an equally open-design bathroom, no shower door or curtain, just a step down area with dual showerheads, a vanity with sink and toilet. He'd seen the design on one of those rich and famous home shows years ago and when he remodeled this place duplicated it.

Oh good...I'll be right out. A mellow voice answered from behind the tiled wall. Hey, I forgot my toothbrush. Can I use yours?

Wick looked in the direction of the bathroom and humphed. Enjoy your cavities.

I take that as a no? Come on, you seriously won't let me stick your toothbrush in my mouth when I've had other things of yours in it?
